Hey anyone know a ball park figure of how much it would cost to get your ports polished?

i bet a port job is expensive, i'd love to get my corolla worked on, though. new cams n everything, valves, v-springs. i'm speculating around 1,000 bucks. b/c doesn't the crank need to be lowered? the timing chain out? retimed? the concept of port polish sounds easy, but physically tedious. i've been having this discussion with a few civic friends who have done this to their b16s. and while the crank is lowered and out, you might as well replace the rods and piston rings.

My friend has a 2JZ from a 2001 IS. unfortunately, the car was in an accident 4 years ago and has been sitting outside. mostly parted out with parts sold on ebay and other websites.. but the engine is still in there. now he just bought an 94 supra and wants to put the 2JZ in there and turbo it but he's worried about the engine, especially when it hasn't been used in a while and he wants to put turbo on it. anyway, 600-700 sounds kinda expensive. so far talked to 3 mechanics and they all don't want to do it. haha.

which ports?

intake manifold, exhaust manifold, header(s), heads?

well here in hawaii it's about 600-700 for a full head job

that better be some good head.

hey here in india they charge not more than 500usd. i am not sure if the workmanship is of the same level.and i am too scared to get it done for my car. coz if its not done right ur screwed

There's a shop near my house that does QUALITY work and only charges like $200 for full race port/polish.

wow, $200, thats not bad at all. tell your shop to move near me!

IMHO, just find a reputable shop to do a that job. It's easier to take off/shave metal than to add metal.

I hate the saying, "You get what you paid for".

yeah well a lot of things are expensive here in hawaii... but i mean they flow bench and everything. that and they are like the only shop known to do really good work...
