So my new hood is supposed to come in sometime next week and i need to get it painted, i am definitely gonna be doing this job myself as body shops are charging me ridiculous prices to get my hood painted, does anyone have any advice on painting? sanding, buffing, the whole works? I'm excited to get this done myself but i honestly need more knowledge on painting, lemme know your guys thoughts thanks! oh and the hood will already come primed.

Make sure its all smooth and shit... dont use one of those directional spray cans because it will leave ugly ass streaks. Get a GOOD clear coat.

BTW; are yo going to rattle can it or do you have a compressor and spray gun?

sand 220-300 grit the whole hood
    primer the whole hood

--Depending on the paint you have, may vary
--Paint, at least 3-4 coats then 3 coats of clear then wet sand and finish it with some buffing
--If using a water base then just paint and its should be done

If you do rattle can job patience is the only advice i can give you

No, it will just be harder to wash, like if you get stains from just the randomist shit you will have a hard time cleaning it, then you would have to wet sand to get it off...

Primered parts will not rust, my car has been primered for a few months now...

Yeah if you leave it primed it will start to get powdery, also 500 or 600 is fine 330 grit is best.

so 330 grit would work the best for prepping the hood before the actual painting?

Oh and if you are start painting your own stuff invest in a nice paint gun. You can get a top of the line one for around $400-600

Yeah I mean a 600 dollar paint gun is something an avid painter would use but for a one time project a 80 dollar gun will suffice.

cheap gun painted at least 10 cars before it showed signs of failure...in the shop they only buy those nice OSHA approved guns but if you go to harbor freight you can pick one up under $100
