Engine Overdrive Confuses me

    Overdrive Confuses me

    I was going driving down the turnpike and with my overdrive on the rolla topped out at 100.. but i turned my overdrive off.. and i was around 115-120.. (not to sure.. seeing how the speedometer only says 110 and all.. ) and thats where she topped off..

    O/D is only good for gas saving purposes. I suggest when you race or anything like that, have it off. If you leave O/D on when you're going top end, your tranny is going to shift to O/D early from 3rd gear and more than likely you'll fall out of your powerband.

    its because your transmission is running slightly faster than the engine. in lamens terms. over drive is for gas mileage.

    n/p, just don't forget to turn it back on when you're reaching red-line on 3rd gear.
