    one or two subs.. hrmm

Alright, I've sort of made up my mind on what I'm wanting.. now just to figure out how many.

I'm wanting to either get one or two Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1d's. I'm probably going to power each sub (if I do get two) with a Rockford Fosgate Power 351M. (350W x 1 @ 2ohms)

The question, how loud is this going to be? I haven't really been in a CAR with good bass, so I don't know how much it takes to really feel/hear the bass from the trunk. I'm not looking to compete or anything like that, I just want to be able to feel/hear the lows, and possibly have the person in the car next to me hear them. ;) I listen to everything... rap, rock, heck even country! Anyways, do you think one sub will be enough.. or should I go for two?

One good sub can give you plenty of bass.

I think Kappa Perfect 12 is a good choice.

Also 10.1D is the DVC version. I think you don't really need the DVC version. Go for Kappa Perfect 12.1.

I'd have to run the amp at 4ohms, so wouldn't the sub only get 175 watts?

Anyways, would there be that much of a difference between then 10" and 12"? They have the same RMS, the same peak, but the 12" has a 96dB sensitivity while the 10" has a 94dB sensitivity.

If those are the sensitivity numbers, then driving the 12 inch with 175 watts would be the same as driving the 10 inch with 276 watts. 2 dB is a fairly big difference power wise.

You could bridge 2ch and get 4X regular one channel wattage.
Higher db = more sensitive = more efficient
12" usually has deeper bass than 10".

Ok, I'm a newbie at this car audio stuff.. so :D

Anyways, are you saying get a 2 channel amp and use it to power a 12"? I have no ide about "briding".. could you give me a diagram of how that would hook up? Would I need a SVC or a DVC sub? The RF 351S can do 350W x 1 @ 4 ohms bridged... would that be good to get? (pretty much the same price)

What you want is a Rockford fosgate Power 351M amp and a Rockford He2 12 sub. It comes with a Dual 4 ohm voice coils, which, when ran parallel create a perfect 2 ohm load for the mono block power 351M. This setup in a bandpass or ported enclosure will sound incredible in your trunk...

I've learned that when getting speakers, it really does depend on the kind of music you listen to... if its more high pitched, vocally or trance kind of music, 10s work best...if its the bass you're after, 12s are for you :)

10s suck ass in a trunk - PERIOD. A clean 12 will destroy a 10 any day of the week in a trunk... Stick with Alpine Type R or Fosgates HE or HX series and it will be crystal clear. Stick them in a sealed box with plenty of power and you will blow any 10s out of the water... I dont care what kind of music it is

I tried out Alpine type-R in the store. It sure does sound clearer than any other subs. Even the componet type-R sounded really clear and had the best bass for 6 1/2.

type Rs are incredible for the price... Plus they are pretty efficient for their construction and durability, and POUND! But I chose fosgate purely for the fact that Alpine amps are gutless... cleanest amps out there IMO, but no good sub amps... and I wanted to match everything. Otherwise my whole system would be alpine!

Infinity uses "In car sensitivity" which includes the gain obtained from Transfer Function. It's 96dB sensitivity only translates to about 88dB in "real world" sensitivity. Marketing stuff gotcha there..

I have 3 Alpine Type-R 12" in the trunk of my corolla, I really like the way they sound. You can get them to hit relativly high by playing with the box size. Mine are in 0.7 cubic foot sealed boxes facing backwards. I am going down to just two of them eventually. Too much weight in the back of my car.

im goin with all alpine speakers all around in mine and one 12 in the truck. that is all you would need for some good bass. two 12's just talke up more room and really wont give you to much more bass. unless that is what you want. But i need room for my golf clubs and my softball bag. so only one 12 for me. 10's suck. i have installed many subs before 10,12,15
10- little tight bass any deep bass sounds bad good only if you have a small truck. with no room
12- best of everything good tight and low bass
15- deep bass but not very clear.
and unless you want a trunk full of speakers and amps save your money get one sub you will love it. and make it a 12.
