    Oil Change

Ok my car and my bro's is at about 2k miles i was wondering when should i do my first oil change. I've misplaced my manual and cant find it at the moment and my brother is out of town so i couldn't look at his. So what mileage did you guys give your corolla its first oil change? I'd also would like to know what type of oil you guys use. I know there are a lot of people who swear by one type but, I just want to know what most of you guys use. As for oil filters I'm going oem I just ordered a case of YZZA2's. thanks and i know this is a repost but i was having trouble finding the answers for it because of over 1k results.

Well you should of changed it arround 1000 miles. So anytime soon would be good.

Good choice with the Toyota filters thou. I personally use Mobile 1 (full synthetic, thats what the 1 means) 5w30 oil. I am a fan of Mobile, always heard good stuff about it, so before i used synthetic i used to use plain Mobile 10w30. Many other people here also use Mobie 1 5w30. Mobile 1 is a respected brand, it is one of the easiest full synthetics to find on the shelf (wall-mart has it in 5qt jugs for $20, which is a good deal for full synthetic).

why should i have changed it around 1000 miles? on a side note how much do oem filters usually go for? i ordered a case which is 12 filters for 47 dollars which i thought was a good deal because a case of oem honda filters usually cost 48+shipping.

You do your first oil change at 1k because the engine is brand new and it may have some metal shavings and stuff like that left in it from the factory. Plus your always better off to change oil sooner rather then later, and when parts are trying to get worn in its best to give them some fresh oil to work with. Not a huge deal thou. Its just something most ppl do to baby their cars.

I buy my Toyota oil filters 1 at a time whenever im gettin ready to change my oil and i think they cost me like 5.20 or 5.40 or something like that. I know its 10 and some change for 2 so its somewhere under 5.50.

If you do 5.30 x 12 it comes to 63.60 so it sounds like your getting a good deal. Both dealers i have got filters from charge 5.something, so compared to me your getting a good deal anyway.

Well, have fun changein that oil!!

I changed my oil for the first time @ 7046 miles. I now have nearly 40,000 miels on it and have used Mobil 1 synthetic since the first oil change. I run 10W-30 in summer and warm weather, and 5W-30 if it's getting cold outside.

I really have no clue, but there's been speculation about whether or not Toyota puts any kind of conditioners in the engine oil to help the rings seat and bearings break in. I've never saw any fact, but if there WERE any metal shavings, then that's what the filter is for, right?

Each to their own, but I'm just saying that I waited 7000 miles to change the oil and my engine is still flawless...no problems yet. I don't think I'd change it any sooner than 3000 miles, though - but then again, that's just me.

Actually, piston rings NEED some friction to seat properly and synthetics are so good at reducing friction that they may not let the rings seat correctly? I'd wait.

In Canada, the recommended oil change interval is every 8000 Kms (5000 miles). I did my 1st oil change for Amsoil synthetic 5W30 at 3600 Kms (2200 miles) and it was pretty contaminated and well due for a change. The oil is in fact subject to more stress and contaminants during break-in. I have achieved a good and complete break-in as oil consumption was reduced to nil before reaching the 10000 Kms (6000 miles) mark.

i've heard about the special conditioners thats why i asked. But i probably will wait til atleast 3k to change it. i wasn't sure if i should wait til 7k but considering my car doesnt get driven much....should i change it before a certain amount of time. the changes in temperature aren't drastic here in california. so i'm not sure if i should wait til a certain amount of time before i change it. these corollas are spare cars for when our daily drivers are in the shop. but my parents use them mostly, so i want to keep them maintained so nothing will go wrong when my parents are on the road. plus this is my first new car so i want to keep it as perfect as possible. :)

i didn't say anything bout the mobile 1....i think it's time to go visit my friend and borrow some of his mobile 1. His dad bought like 5 cases after he found out an oil change for his porsche was 300 dollars. so now everyone in his family runs mobile 1.
