Oil brand?

What brand of Synthetic Oil do you guys suggest I use on the Camry. Which ones would you suggest I stay away from?

And would a toyota filter be okay to use or would a different filter be better..if so, which one?

I only use Toyota filters with Mobile 1 Synthetic. Thats just me though.

Im with these guys. OEM Toyota Filter with Mobil1 Synthetic.

And now alot of other oil filter companies are basically fram filters just renamed. I know for a fact Penzoil filters are fram filters with a different name. I just stick with OEM toyota as those are cheaper for me.

AMSOIL 20W30 turbo formulated , Royal Purple 10W30 Synthetic , and Mobil 1 Synthetic 20w30, except the Hybrid uses Honda Brand Only due to extremely low viscoxity status 0w20, All vehicles use Hastings Oil Filter provided in by AMSOIL.

Castrol GTX 5W30 w/ Toyota Filters.... sometimes FRAM if I can't find anything else on hand.

EDIT: I currently have 84,000 miles on my car... is it too late to switch to synthetic?

Castrol Syntec with a Fram filter for me.

I use whatever I happen to have bought last..I've used Mobil1, Castrol GTX, Supertech..and probably others.

Is there any scientific basis for not using any particular brand of oil -- ie is Supertech (Walmart) actually any different than Castrol..Valvoline..etc?

I use dino oil, too. Castrol GTX 5w30 during winter and 10w30 during summer. I always use K&N Gold Oil filters.

Can't go wrong with Mobil1 and OEM filter - worked for me on two cars - both over 100K miles on a 7500-12K mile drain interval. Started on the Matrix that we bought with 40K miles on dino - now with almost 60K and synthetic - mileage has improved quite a bit.

Also depends on your drain interval - if you are aiming to change your oil every 3K miles - then conventional motor oil should be plenty fine. In fact - some conventional motor oils can be very close to some Group III synthetic oils, specification wise. Just have to make sure the oil meets the new API standard class - SM grade. There is still quite a bit of oil that is old and sitting on the shelf.

Others that I've used with good luck - Pennzoil Platinum (sometimes runs as low as $2 a quart with a coupon), Castrol (GTX, Syntec Blend, Syntec), Valvoline (All-Climate, DuraBlend, Synpower), SuperTech synthetic (Wal*Mart), Amsoil, Mobil (5000, 7500, M1, M1 EP), Royal Purple, Red Line, and Shell Rotella/Mobil Delvac.

Filters used are Toyota OEM, Purolator, Purolator PureONE, WIX, NAPA gold, K&N, and Mobil. Never had any problem with any of them - only have problems with FRAM (one regular and one DuraGuard - filters collapsed internally, and one SuperTech brand - also collapsed internally.)

Right now - I get the best deal on Toyota OEM filters of all things - $3.50 each when you get a case pack of 10 filters + a couple of free gaskets.

how good is hastings supposed to be? Ive been using bosch and i have to drive 20 minutes just to get them and its a pain in the a**.

Hastings is a pretty good filter - I'm surprised that you can find a Hastings filter easier than some others. I think the manufacturer of Hastings filter is AMS - a big maker of motorcycle filters.

Amsoil 0W30 or 5W30 (right now it's 10W30 b/c autobacs was out of 0W and 5W =D) and, of course, Toyota OIl Filters. I usually change every 4-5000miles.

Toyota filters seem to be really well made. Obviously I dont have a Toyota anymore, but Mobil 1 and Toyota filters are all I use on my Mom's Solara. Ok, well I do top it off with dino sometimes.
