    offset for 16x7 Rota wheels

    hello,

I just bought a 05 Corolla S, and need to get some alloys on it.

I'm fairly set on the Rota Slipstream in 16x7, with Kumho Ecsta ASX 205/55/16 tires on them. The speedometer error is 0.4% which I can live with, and it should weigh a lot less than stock.

The question is: what offset should I get, +40 or +48?

    http://toy4two.home.mindspring.com/offset.html
According to the above calculator, with +40:

The clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 11mm LESS
The outside edge of the wheel will EXTEND an extra 15mm

    and with +48:

The clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 19mm LESS
The outside edge of the wheel will EXTEND an extra 7mm

So which is better? Will either of them cause rubbing? This is on a completely stock car...no suspension work.

Let me know what you think...

I could also get the 15x6.5, and use stock size rubber (195/65/15) but I think I'd be much happier with the 16.

I'm thinking of getting the "gunmetal with polished lip" as seen in:

    http://www.machiii.net/wheels/Rota_Slipstream.html

$500 shipped + another $300 for tires should make me pretty happy.

    Let me know!

    thanks,

    -tal

    thanks

    ariman,

thanks for the reply. I'll go for the ET40 then.

I wonder if this is another board where nobody really knows how cars work...

I come from the Volvo turbo world, and there's two boards, one for the RWD folk, and one for the FWD. On the RWD board, everyone knows everything, has physically taken their entire car apart at least once, and manages 200 - 300 hp on miniscule budgets bu programming their own home-built EFI fuel maps.

In the FWD board people talk about how bigger wheels perform better, and what headlights to use...

Needless to say, I'm glad I have a RWD Volvo and don't need anything from the FWD folk...

    cheers,

    ps: Corolla's get insane mileage!
