Officially in the fold...2002 Corolla LX

Yes indeed family! I'm OFFICIALLY in the Toyota Family. At approximately 1215pm CST I took delivery of my very first Toyota. She's a 2002 Corolla LX, imported from Singapore. I'm in Jamaica so that's no big deal (we import cars from everywhere it seems! LOL). She's got the 1NZFE and has 4 wheel discs, leather seats, wood kit, 10disc Sony XPlod changer with a Sony XR-C5200 headunit, auto tranny and Toyota alloy wheels on 14 inchers. Lovely vehicle indeed. Anyway, here she is in living colour...

The car looks great. I'm also in Jamaica and saw your post. Well, coincidentally I have a 2001 Corolla XLI imported from Singapore without the wood trim but with fog lamps and chrome 15 inch Toyota wheels.

I would love to exchange notes eg what are your thoughts on the factory alarm? Did you get a user manual (there are some things on my car that I have no clue about), What do you think of the overall performance and have you had any problems. I'm in Portmore and I love that these corollas seem to be increasing in popularity.

    2002 Corolla LX

Wow! what a surprise. I'm in Jamaica as well (Portmore) and just got a 2001 Corolla XLI without the wood trim but with fog lamps and 15 inch Toyota Chrome rims.Would love to exchange notes eg what do you think about the factory alarm? Did you get a user manual for your car, I haven't yet and so I'm confused about some of the other features.

It's really nice though that the number of these units seem to be growing very fast in Kingston & St. Catherine .

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Glad to see you here my fellow Jamaican 'Rolla Brother! Actually I was gonna get an 2001 XLi myself but some chick beat me to it. Just as well because the LX is MUCH nicer! My car HAD fogs as well but they were stolen at some point before I took delivery (dem raas claat tiefin bwoy dung a wharf aggo dead yuh know!). The dealer put these black-out plates in for me. I plan to replace those soon with the proper fog lamps...just waiting for Mitchell's to take delivery. I bought mine from Rhea Auto here in Montego Bay. They are a certified used car dealer so they are mandated to provide user manuals. So yes got one with mine. That said the user manual I got was actually a New Zealand translated book for the Jap spec models...you know...the dowdy X and Luxel models with drum brakes (how archaic!!) etc. But hey are basically the same. The only major difference is that the Jap models have tyre pressure indicators, ours don't. What exactly are you confused about? Everything should be pretty straight forward. The stereo might require a bit of fiddling to get to all the features but that shouldn't be a problem.

I didn't get a "factory" alarm. It's a Singaporean-built Silicon Ulti-mate β, but I didn't get a manual for that so right now I can't programme the damn thing to do anything. I've emailed the company twice in order to obtain some kinda help but nothing yet.

Send me a PM and we can exchange details.

They're really getting popular in JAMAICA! As are all the Singaporean spec cars for some reason. I'm itching to find out why.

BTW: Yuh put on yuh "FORTIS" sticker yet?!? Unnuh man nuh easy a raas! <smh>

Seeing that these cars were first designed to be RHD that's an advantage for us here in Jamaica. For you guys this chassis is a 2003 model. In Japan it started in 2001 and we got our first examples as local models in 2002. RHD is better for us right-handed ppl too 'cause we get to have our dominant hand on the wheel at all times (for those who see the need to shift, change CDs, talk on the phone, pick a nose, or generally exchange hand-signals with less capable drivers!)

RHD is very key. I drove RHD coronas when i was in thailand and it felt way more intuitive, both to drive with your right hand and to shift with your left.

Hey Car_9! Glad to see you! Can't say the same for your car bro, we're only seeing red X's. The pics aren't showing up. Looking forward to seeing them though. I got the Silicon manual in my email. Really appreciate it.

I'm getting in excess of 40mpg on open road. A 200+km journey with the a/c on and averaging around 55km/h over hills and valleys burns about 1/4 tank. My calculation tells me that this is just a shade over 50mpg! Amazing...

The books say 43mpg highway I think.

great purchase! I especially like the tail lights with the slightly yellow tinge where the reverse lights sit.

Haha.. and you have the IU unit attached to the windshield as well.

I see you have the JDM spec grille on your car. And the mirror-mounted indicators. I dig it...looks good (but I prefer the original Toyota logo'd grille).
