    Nikon D90 or Canon 50D

I currently have a D50 and looking to upgrade to the D90, possibly to this kit from costco Nikon D90 or this Canon 50D. i like the price of the D90 a lot more, so would i be ok with that one or should i wait extra month or two and get the canon? on top of that, what is a used nikon D50 worth with kit lens? i've taken approximately 5500 photos and have all original manuals, box and accessories.

I would go with the Canon. Many more lenses are compatible with them (EF and EF-S mount lenses, VS AF-S only with most Nikon cameras). I'm saving up for a Canon myself (1000D/XS or XSi). Plus, canon lenses are WAY cheaper than Nikon. More bang for your buck, IMO.

Can't go wrong with the two.... BUT the D90 got some HD Video recording...:D

I went with my D80 because it felt more comfortable and fit just right...

HD video is not something I need in a camera as I already have a Canon HD video camera already. The lower Nikon models take the AF-S lens, but the D90 doesn’t fall into that category and neither does the D50.

How much are used D50’s going for?

If it's going to be a hobby, go with canon because the gear/lens are much cheaper compared to nikon. I have a nikon d300 and the lens for the camera is expensive as fuck.

I know this is premature to ask, but do you see yourself upgrading again in the future? I would go with a Canon, but since it has both mounts, then you'd have a choice to get whatever you want as far as lenses. But if you later upgrade to a 5D or higher, then the EF-S lenses won't work on those. so if thats all you have then you'll have nothing but paper weights (unless you keep the 50D as a backup) and you'd have to buy all new lenses. But, if you buy nothing but EF lenses then you'll be fine.

I can't speak too much about Nikon cause I don't own one. Look at these reviews:

    http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond90/
    http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos50d/

Everyone says Canon has cheaper lenses than Nikon. Might be true but good lenses still run $800+. It all depends on what you want. Not sure if I would consider that cheap..lol.

i ended up going with the Canon 50D and a 50mm 1.8 lens. i liked the features of the Canon and I already have a Canon HD video camera, so figured i would keep it the same. Also got some filters, but need to get higher capacity memory card.
