    new tires/wheels

I'm thinking about buying new set of wheels (yes, I have new ones right now).

The tires I'm using right now are 205/40/R17 for dry/wet (very very poor performance for snow).

I'm looking for maybe a softer ride and all-weather performance (adequate for snow).

Are 205/50-55/16s the same overall circumference as the wheels i have now (205/40/17)?

I'm getting new set of tires because I will be doing a lot of long distance driving every other weekend and I encounter some nasty bumps along the way.

If you just plan on driving in snow, put on steelies or your old alloys with winter tires on the car. New York probably gets bad snow falls. We get it here in Chicago.
