    Neon Lights [help plz]

I was thinking about putting 2 15" neon lights from streetglow under the passenger and driver feet area....but I don't want to drain the battery is there a way to put an extra battery in the trunk or something like that just for the lights? like is there a way to wire the lights to that battery and how would I go about setting that up since *I Think* the lights are plugged in using the volt lighter thingy (sorry for the lack of terminology knowledge :p) and if I want to use one of those streetglow music interface things (anyone have any experience with these?)...how would that go in to this whole thing :p thanks

The more general: Wire from battery then fusebox with a switch and then to the neons.

You can also get an inline-fuse wire and wire it to a switch then to the neons and battery.

    Here is a brief description:

    Battery<---------|fuse|--------switch-------<neons

without tha use of a second battery.

    here is what I did:

I took a 14 gauge wire and added an inline fuse from battery through firewall along with the same gauge ground wire and ran them to a switch on the left side of my dash next to coin holder. There should be an empty slot there that you can remove and drill a hole for your switch. I then made a custom junction box that I mounted next to my hood release. The wires from the switch (accessory power and ground) go to the junction box and then I added the neon wires there. That way, its ez access and if I want to add more I don't have to run wire through dash again.
If you do it like this with a switch, you won't have to worry about your battery since these things don't use much power anyway. The circuit will be protected and you can turn them on and off at your demand without having to use a tacky cig. lighter adapter.

i just ran two 15 inch neons under my dash on both sides.

easiest way to install---------plastic zip ties. so easy!!!!

i used the cigarette lighter and ran the wiring back to thecenter console and plugged them into the one inside, with a double adapter. i can use the music or solid with mine, there is a switch on the tubes.

and all i have to do is reach inside and pull it out of the lighter if i wanted them off.

but now i have them underneath the dash, you really cant see them from the outside, so i leave them plugged in all the time!

I installed 2 - 10" purple rod lights under the dash. I drilled holes and used screws with nuts to hold them firm and tight. I figured over the years they will get loose or might be kicked so I needed to secure them firmly. I grounded both black wires to the bolts under the shifter. I then wired the positive wires to a switch by the cup holders by drilling a hole. (I bought the switch from Radio Shack). From the switch I wired a wire to a green wire that runs down the middle. This green wire is connected to the license plate lights. (Its all green with no stripes, so becareful and turn the wire all around to be sure.) So it lights up when the dash lights turn on....toggled by a switch in case I didn't want them on. Took me about 1.5-2 hours. The lights I bought em off ebay for 16.99 plus 6 for shipping.

I have 2-10" purple neon rods under dash. Because of the AC unit behind the dash on the passanger's side, I had to put it outside instead of behind the dash. Grounded both wires under shifter. Neons are being held by screws&nuts to prevent loosening over the years. Drilled in a switch on the center console behind the second cup holder towards the bottom. Positive is wired to a solid green wire, that runs the license plate lights.

I also installed a purple street glow kit this past weekend (12/13/03). Grounded the front and sides to a ground screw on both sides of the engine compartment. (You should see 2 screws there with black wires attachted). The 3 positive wires were ran inside through a rubber hole behind the engine compartment towards the top (you should see a bunch of wires running in). I pulled the wires from the inside and drilled another switch like the previous one and wired it to the cigarette lighter. The back neon was a little trickier. Both wires were ran inside through a "drain hole" for the spare tire. You should see a black rubber plug. Pulled the wires underneath the spare, underneath the truck "mat", pulled along the driver's side and ran it with the pull wires for the truck and gas hatch. I know its a mouth full but it worked.

I don't recommend buying the LED's underkits. The ones I bought had different shades of the same color and they focus in little "spots". Not as bright as neons and mine looked more hot pink than purple. Get the real neons. I have neons now, but with a spare kit also.

I will be posting plenty of pictures on cardomain, I'll reply this post with I get around to it for the link.
