    Need Opinions

Ok guys I know absolutely nothing about car audio.....I just want to replace my head unit in an attempt to get better/crisper sound and improve the high end.

I was looking at HU's on sounddomain.com and ran across this one and thought it looked really cool and was a good deal....http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/SONCDXM850MP

I saw the model w/out MP3 capability at Best Buy for almost the same price....What do you guys think...Good Deal? any better recommendations? Does Sony make a good HU?

    Thanks guys,
    JB

Overall, Sony does make good consumer products, but for car audio, I'll say they are just ok. My Sony HU skips like hell and I heard ppl saying that Sony's HU tend to skip and wear CD while they are not installed perfectly horizontal.

Bottom line, if you really really their screen (They do make beautiful screen), go for it. But for the same price, you can get better ones from other brands.

Sony is crap when it comes to Car Audio.....the amps, HUs, subwoofers are all crap on the Sony Xplode line.

If I were u get a Pioneer HU preferably one from the Premier line or get an Alpine HU which are really good as well. 8)

    ^^^ Agreed

Sony has dropped the ball when it comes to car audio (ALL SHOW, NO GO!)

I'd stick with what SSJ_Rolla said...can't go wrong with pioneer or alpine.

    I agree with SSJ_Rolla too.
I don't know much about Pioneer HUs.
Alpine is good for both the design and the performance.
If I look for clarity/money, then I would go for Clarion, though their design is not so impressive...

My last 4 decks have been all been Kenwood brand, Excelons for the last 2. Great head units that I find little reason to switch from. Good deck power if you are not going with amps, nice designs. Worth looking at.

I always had good luck w/ JVC headunits. They are not the most stylish, but they get the job done if your on budget.

For speakers I ussually get Pioneer. Have yet to blow one.

To answer your question about SONY HU's, XploD is about a hair better than Pyramid, Pyle, Kraco, Jensen, Legacy.. and so on If you don't know these brands, go to your local flea market and you'll know what I mean :p

XPLOD is in the same line as Audiobahn and MA Audio (all show, just blow)

If you want good HU's, look at Alpine, Blaupunkt, Clarion, Denon, RF... etc

I've had Kenwoods for years and they seem to be loud and durable with a nice design.
