    need help with engine light

    whats up everyone!

My check engine light went on and I went to autozone so they could check out why it went on. I dont remember the code because i was doing this during my lunch break and wanted to get back before i was late. I do remember that he said that it could be improper purge valve flow detected in emissions control system, or gas cover might not be on right, or a vaccum hose. I havent done any mods or anything like that. Has anyone had this problem and if so what did you do to fix it?

    btw i have a 98 corolla ce

    Any help will be appreciated.

Was it a PO446 code. Did you ever fill you fuel tank while the engine was running, that will trip the light. Make sure your gas cap is tightened and not loose. Also check with the Toyota dealer there may be service bulletin or a recall on the evap canister.

i had that problem recently - the gasket on my gas cap had dried out somehow. so even though the gas cap was on tightly, it wasn't sealing. that tripped the CEL.

well, i was on my way to autozone again to get the codes again and when i was almost there i noticed the dam CEL was not on. Since i was close by i went anyway. the guy from autozone said he couldnt check it if it wasnt on....i dont know what happened! I'm waiting to see if it goes on again. The only thing i notice when the light went off was that I was running low on gas...that was it.

no, i never filled up car with engine on.

The people telling you that they can't pull codes if the CEL isn't on...I just don't know about that. A lot of fault codes won't turn on the CEL. The fault code is still there, though. Just makes me wonder.

My CEL came on again yesterday, i took it to advance auto parts to have it checked out. If i remember correctly the code was 4401, he said that code usually comes up with the gas cap is not closed properly. I opened and closed it again. He cleared the code for me. Does anyone know if it will happen again? Should he have cleared the code?

I need help! the CEL came on again!!! This is the code P0441 EVAP Control System Improper Purge Flow. Can I replace that part or is it something that a shop has to do to it, like check pressure after installing it or anything like that. The CEL is driving me crazy!

i took my car toyota, they 1st didnt pull a code for the purge. the only thing they could find was that i need a tune up. I had them do it and the next day the CEL came on again! I took it back and they found out it was a vapor sensor in the fuel tank! They said they would credit me whatever i paid for the tune up but that would cost me around $300-$400. Does anyone know where (online) I can get that part for a cheaper price?
