Need help with corolla value after collision

I'm looking at this 01 Corolla with rear collision (left rear quarter/trunk), repairs valued at around $1500 CDN ($1150 USD). I'm not a car expert, so could someone tell me if this indicates serious damage, or a common amount ?? In fact it took a mechanic to notice the repaint.. Everything else about the car checks out OK, mechanical, interior, etc.... Any ideas on how much this should factor into price ? Its going for 11k (8150 USD) ....

    thx...

I'm not an expert on the subject, but it doesn't take much damage to run up a tab. A paint job alone can easily run close to 1k, if its done correctly. Check to see if there are any new looking bolts or parts in the trunk and wheel well areas, along with the underbody. A buddy of mine does auto repair and a lot of times it is easier to just replace the parts, such as the panels, then try to repair them, so it sometimes is hard to tell how severe the original damage was (it might not have been bad, but it saves time to just replace the parts). You should have a good collision repair center check the alignment of the body. If possible, see if you can get in contact with the original owner, through a title trace, to talk to them. If you are in good standing with your insurance agent, they might even look over the car to ensure that you are not getting a lemon since they are trained (supposedly) to inspect for damages and they will be covering the car if you get it. If everything checks out, you should be able to get a good deal on the car, since it is harder for a dealer to sell a car that has been wrecked. Good luck! Go to kellybluebook.com (kbb.com) to get an idea of what you should be paying.

Not sure how a rear quarter panel repair will affect resale value, but to put repair costs into perspective, here's a picture of a ding I got last year. The repair bill was $1100 CDN. A good paint job is expensive.

It is not unlikely for a body repair to run to that amount, even less if the trunk lid and quarter pannel had to be changed on the car. The value of the car is mainly based on two factors. 1. The quality of the job that was done to the car. 2. If the chasis of the car was affected by the hit.

I'm mainly referring to the Trade-in value that you're going to have since at dealers they have people who give you the trade-in quote and who are specialist in finding fix up spots on crashed cars. Retail value should not suffer much as long as the car is running and looking good.
