    Need help with a problem

Earlier today I went to the USMC substation and took the practice ASVAB and later today i took the real one.I passed it but not with the best score i got a 44. For those of you who don't know you need a 31 to enlist its like a 75% or something like that Now tomorrow I enlist and on Thursday they are sending me to San Antonio. A little while ago i told my dad and he was pissed off really bad. If her gets this mad i can just imagine my mom.I think they get like this for that fact that i am the only child.Well her in lies my problem I don't know how to tell her i know that if she finds out she may disown me as the family has done to my cousin for going against what his parents wanted. his parents or my aunt and uncle work for the U.S. Government at the Pentagon. She retires this year and he continues. I am afraid the same will happen to me even though this is something that i have wanted to do for a long time. How do i tell her. Whe knows what happens she was in the army herself for about 6 years and her and my uncle are very close and talk about things that don't even show up on television or the newspaper. Now that i have met weight standards, and mental and physical standards she has noticed and questioned me the other day. i told her i we fighting with my ex and had not been eating or been home. which was bull. so now i am wondering. If anyone has gone though this before anything will be helpful. thanks Ruben

My friends and I went through something similar when we joined the Military. (Different Branches) Although my situation was not quite as bad joining the Air Force, we still see a threat, that most people do not realize because of our lazy rep. You should just tell her. Sit down and talk about why you want to go in, why its important to you, and that you want her support, regardless of her fear that you may be harmed. Your parents need to support your career decisions whether they agree with them or not. You cannot live out their dreams. You also have to realize that they may be only wanting you to have the best life you can, and they do not want to see it cut short.

If they are mad because you are strictly working for the Goverment, then (no offense) they need to grow up. People who have angst against the Gov't for whatever reason, need to realize that without one, we would be a third world nation with little to nothing. Also, goverment employess are just like you and me, people looking for a good job, with security and a paycheck to pay the bills.

There are many benefits to joining the military. Its a give/take agreement. You give up a few freedoms for a while and give service of yourself. In turn you get free education, medical benefits, and learn some valuable skills to make you more successful in the civilian workforce. not just to do your job, but you learn to be a professional, how to be a leader/supervisor/manager. You also learn the real meaning behind teamwork, loyalty, and commitment. These concepts are normally not taught in most places.
I have three friends in the Marines and I can tell you that I have the utmost respect for them after working with them in Iraq. I hope I've helped.

Remember this one thing: Real men have no fear, because they trust in God's protection, and follow His path. Fear comes from the adversary, not the Father. :) Just be smart, believe that He can protect you, and He will. :)
