well the fact he has no insurance and his engine was stolen - how could one commit any kind of insurance fraud with that? lol

    Just a thought...

odd someone would steal an engine though - unless it was highly modified - seen it happen to a couple people out here before - really sucks - but usually they jack the car, gut it / strip it and dump it...

lol...exactly what I was thinking. Who just walks up to a car and says &quot;wow, I bet this car has a nice engine...I think I'll take it!&quot;. Sounds like somebody didn't want anybody to know they messed up their engine so they had it &quot;stolen&quot; so they could get a new one for free...I'm not tryin to be rude or anything but this whole story sounds a little suspicious to me... <img src="http://vvti.net/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Confused" />

On your original post you said it was "Illegal" for him to not have insurance, and that is what you based your argument that is people like him that make insurance so costly for others, when in fact it is not illegal for him to drive his car withouth insurance in TN. It is highly recommended, and you have to prove that you have a way to pay if you get sued, but it is not illegal for him to drive his car withouth insurance.

Actually it is insurance fraud and high risk drivers that contributes to our insurance costs being so high, more so than someone withouth insurance.

If he said he got into an accident multiple times, and/or participated in insurance fraud then your statement would be accurate.

Okay, he lives in one of the few states where it isnt illegal to NOT have insurance.
    My bad.

And my insurance rates are higher because I have to pay just in case someone that isnt insured runs into me, and my insurance company has to battle it out with Maryland.

Cool! Just wanted to make that clear. I also live in a high insurance state which is NY, and in the highest city in NY which is NYC! Of course it sucks worse if you live in NJ! Anyway, this thread has gotten off topic, so yeah it would be nice to see pics of the car on the floor withouth wheels and an engine! :D

Don't jump on him so fast for not having insurance. TN is one of a few states like NH that do not require you to have car insurance in order to register the car or drive it. Here is a site with the info:

    http://www.autoinsurancelaw.com/ten...urance-law.html

And even though it is weird that they stole only his engine and not the car, if it did happen then it is funny as hell! Sorry could not help myself!

Once I had my car stolen and it was returned 7 days later to the same place in front of my house. It was actually washed and waxed on top of that! Even though they broke the cylinder lock to steal it, It was more of a shock to see it back than to see it missing. People still don't believe me, but it is true.

Like I said earlier, its people that dont have insurance that raises the costs for everyone else:

    "Car Insurance Requirements for Tennessee
Tennessee requires the following minimum auto insurance coverage, if purchased:

    *25/50/10

    In other words...
Your car insurance coverage in Tennessee, if purchased, must provide a minimum of $25,000 for injury liability for one person in an accident, $50,000 for all injuries in an accident, and $10,000 for property damage in an accident.
*Tennessee operates under the Tort System. While you are not required under Tennessee auto insurance law to carry liability insurance in order to register your car or obtain a driver's license, it is strongly recommended that you purchase such coverage.
Should you become subject to the Tennessee Financial Responsibility Statute due to an accident or a violation, you will be required to show proof of financial responsibility"

    Check this out:
"3.) Uninsured motorists coverage protects you directly. This coverage pays if you are injured by a hit-and-run driver or a driver who does not have auto insurance.
This coverage, in effect, takes the place of the insurance that the other driver should have purchased but did not. Some policies also contain coverage for under-insured drivers. These are drivers who purchased insurance but not enough to cover your claim.
Once again, uninsured motorists coverage will have policy limits. Uninsured motorists coverage does not protect the other driver and it may not cover damage to your vehicle.
Under Tennessee auto insurance law, your insurance company may sue the other driver for any money the company pays to you because of the other driver's negligence.
The three coverages mentioned above are the basic coverages contained in liability policies sold under the Tort System and will qualify as proof of financial responsibility under Tennessee auto insurance law.
However, when you purchase auto insurance you will have to decide what other insurance coverages you would like to purchase."

In the long run, the uninsured motorists are hurting the insured motorists.

engines get jacked all the time...but its usually hondas. If you know what your doing it doesnt take that long to do it. U can cut all the hoses and drop the engine on two skateboards and roll it out. The hardest part would be getting the engine out of its mounts which wouldnt take longer than 2hrs (if your experienced).

Actually, I can properly pull the engine in my Corolla (trans and engine still bolted together) in roughly 25 minutes... it's only 4 bolts. If ya did it dirty (cut hoses and harness) I could do it in about 15 with the help of 4 guys to lift it all out. I can lift my engine and transmission off the floor on my own (i did it not more than a week or two ago) the 1zz's are light as fuck.

Anyway, here's how you'd do it (not that im telling someone to go steal motors, just proving its easy:(

    1) jack up the car and remove the front wheels
    2) drop the three bolts (6 total) on the bottom of the steering knuckle and the tie rod ends.
    3) yank the axels
    4) use an extra long extension and socket to pull the rear motor mount horizontal bolt. (access on left side under steering assembly)
    5) use a socket to remove the front motor/trans mount horizontal bolt
    6) cut the wiring harness & hoses
    7) unbolt the single vertical bolt in the right motor mount and the single horizontal bolt in the left motor mount while holding the engine steady.
    8) lift the engine out

    yur done...

not 100% sure this would work on an 03+ but since the chassis are the same on all the 98-02's it'd work on those.
However, you cant lift the complete assembly out with an auto trans, only manual - autos are too large to fit past the battery tray.
