    MWR Big Bore Kit

Ordering the kit, in 3 weeks. Going with the 8.8:1 compression rather than 11:1 because F/I is comming soon. Keeping stock rods but shotpeening(sp) them for 25% more strength. Any input on this kit, very excited about the extra torque.

Since your getting the lower comp. pistons then you shouldnt feel any changes in the car until the turbo comes or supercharger, but the good thing about the low comp is that you can run alot more boost, and more boost is nice. I'm going to be getting the high comp big bore kit after my tranny swap because N/A is fine for me.

Wonder if that was a problem with the kit or poor machine work.

Remember they don't even use them on their turbo'ed MR-S.

i beg to differ, he will see a significant power loss by going to lower compression pistons... lowering compression decreases both the thermal and volumetric efficiency of an engine, power loss is inevitable and noticable. however, once he gets the turbo kit or supercharger on, he will be thankful for the lower compression. but, unless he is trying to run close to 1 bar or higher boost, this is totally unnecessary, and this money would be better spent getting your stock internals cryo-treated and getting a fuel system upgrade..you will see a much better cost : performance ratio by doing this, rather than lowering compression.

unless you're going to do a full fuel system upgrade ( new pump, bigger injectors, ditching the returnless system ) to properly handle the needs of running high boost, doing something like lowering compression is relatively pointless. you can run 8-10psi (possibly )on stock internals on just about any vehicle if you take the time to set up your fuel system properly...

That's insane as hell... I would NEVER pay that much. I'm getting all the same stuff - rods, 82mm pistons, sleeves, etc installed and balanced for under $2500 - you got ripped. My whole engine (which will include different valves, springs, port & polish, etc) will be under 4K.

I would go to say poor machine work. They just put the kit together...they don't make the parts. They use Wiseco Pistons and Darton Sleeves.....that's all the kit consist of......I don't see how it would screw up someone's engine. I was going to get the big bore kit, but I might just get the stock size pistons and new rods. I don't feel like ripping my whole engine out and getting it bored out.

He's also boring it out..not just decreasing compression. MWR told me that it should provide a slight torque increase (that's going from stock to 8.8:1 bored out).

I just found out that my engine is done and I had big bore kit with 8.8:1 pistions, crowler rods ,valve springs and head studs from monkeywrench which cost over 2k. Its all in the machine work, if is done wrong yes it will go to hell fast. The only problem the guy who did mine said that the head gasket was a little to big for the cylinders .With a little work he got it to fit. I all most have 8k just in my engine. I will let you all know how it works out I should get it this weekand or monday.
