MP3 Downloads

there seems to be more and more things popping up with paying for downloading files. I would like to do this, but i also don't like how you can only listen to itunes on an ipod and with napster you lose your songs when you don't pay for the subscription (from what people have told me). is there a way around these tethered downloads?

You can convert your itunes files to MP3 and burn them to disk.
It's not just for an iPOD. Have you ever used iTunes?

Ok I gotcha. Yeah, I've downloaded songs from iTunes. Great quality. You can sign up with a credit or debt card and buy songs singly for about .99c. You could give it a try...

It's a little bit on the technical side, with going into DOS mode and everything but it DOES work. If DOS isn't your style, well you gotta play the game! I usually just RIP my friends CDs into iTunes with the import settings set to high quality MP3. Most of my songs are from that, only a couple are downloaded from iTunes.

If the "hacking in DOS" method isn't your deal, like Laz said, you can always burn the .M4P iTunes files to audio CD and then RIP from the audio CD into iTunes again. There will be a slight degradation in sound quality, but I mean slightly noticeable by ear (for average listeners).

Oh, and if y'all want some free music, check out

    http://www.archive.org/

You'll see alot of .SHN files, which is an even higher resolution sound encoding than mp3 as well as some others.... Good site for free media.

You can burn the songs to a CD as a song CD format without doing anything but using itunes. Now if you wantt o burn them as MP3's withouth the encryption then you can burn them to CD and the re-import them as regular MP3's

you can burn ANY iTunes song to CD, and use the CD as normal music from that point forward. rip it, copy it, do whatever...doesn't matter, since you paid for it. if you LEAVE it as the original format, you can't.

for those who DO have iPods, and want to be able to move songs from their iPod to their computer, use ephpod. some people like that more than iTunes, anyway. i've never used it...if there's something i want transferred from the iPod to the computer, i'll just use the iPod as a hard drive and save it to disk as a file, rather than as music.

Yeah, you can just rip cds in itunes. I have to say itunes is a really usefull and solid program that does pretty much everything I want it to.
Anyways, yeah, setting up an account is really easy. Fill out some info, create a username/password and link a debit or credit card to it and you're done. No monthly charge, which I like.

mytunes, i2hub, bearshare, limewire, aires, mIRC, soulsheek, direct connect.. they're all good for dls if you know what you're doing. It isn't hard to remove spyware from your computer but your best bet is just to have "Spybot - Search & Destroy" and "Ad-Aware SE Professional" to protect your computer from those covert spyware applications. What ever happen to good old a-tracks?
