Ok, so I got a strut tower brace I want to install for my rolla. I got the 12mm socket, put it on the wrench, and figured, "put some strength into it and everything will be okay"

It broke my goddamn adaptor to the socket wrench!!!

So I guess I'll go buy another adaptor, but since I don't feel like breaking another adaptor, I'd like to ask how you people unscrew that bolt on the front strut tower?

was it a cheap adaptor

Yeah, it looked cheap actually, from what I can tell, it looks like it's made from the same material as the center caps...which is, well, cheap.

I guess I should go buy a breaker bar too...

Uh, well...I didn't even know it was cheap until it broke. From the outside it looked all shiny and sturdy...but I guess you can't tell everything by brand and looks, hm?

i did the same thing yesterday. i bought some cheap tools from advance. first time i used it, the socket cracked, funny.

I've broken lots of tools. Heck, I just broke my bench vise yesterday! I've learned to buy good quality lifetime warranty tools, (bought a nice HUGE $60 bench vise today) and always use the RIGHT TOOL FOR THE JOB.

My 18" breaker bar gets LOTS of use, I love it.

yeah, get the brand names, like craftsman. they're have a life time warrenty.

My car has broken a 1/2" to 3/8" adapter, and a 3/8" socket...both Craftsman..

I have broke close to 300 bucks in tools on my car, including 2 breaker bars.

But it was a goos excuse for me to get rid of my 12 point sockets and go all 6 point. WOOHOO

hehe thats y u buy nice tools like SNAP-ON, MAC, or SEARS(CRAFTSMAN) cuz they all got life-time warranty... but next time if u hav this tight of a nut or bolt use a breaker bar...

I went to my nearest Home Depot today looking for breaker bars, the dude looks at me like I'm from another planet.

adapters are usually the weakest piece of the link.

quality adapters handle torque better but can fail as well. there is a much better chance of it not failing, though.

lol, yeah 3 feet. Got to take a pic of it! But I only use it over wrenches, not ratchets cus' if not they'll probably break. I also break my wheel nuts with that thing, they come off like nothing!

If it's for breaking bolts loose, you don't want to use a torque wrench.

Pipe + 1/2" ratchet == cheap breaker bar. Sometimes you can fit the round end of a wrench over the ratchet's handle..that works in a pinch too.

agreed. i wouldn't use my torque wrench for anything other than torquing down bolts.
