    Motegi opinions....

What does everyone think of Motegi Rims? I think I found a nice set of 15's (SILVER RT-5) for $109 each (minus tires) at Summit Racing on the other side of town.

Do you think they'd hold up to autocrossing?

that i can't say. i know Heather(synfulrolla, 98rollagyrl) has cracked more than one set of Motegi wheels, but they were 17" and she can't drive for shit.

if you keep your current wheels and get something light(but not TOO light) for the track you should be ok...that's what i'm doing with the RX7, just in case i crack something.

If youre going to autocross, go with another brand. Everyone and their brother has motegi rims.....probably because you can buy them from Pep Boys.

your best bet if you get anything motegi is to either get the track lites ( forged ) or anything by Ro_Ja there all forged wheels...and ro_ja's made by motegi just there uperclass brand... i had a set of 16" motegi mr7's and i bent the right front rim no more than 2months after i got em..and that was on a small pothole...ive had my konigs for over 6months now and ive hit bigger and deeper holes and there still perfect...

I had OZ superleggerra on my WRX and they were light, strong, awesome looking. I think they'd work on corollas.

Because I'm poor, so to me, the best light weight and cheap 15" rims (weight VS $$$ ) should be Konig Helium. Around US$120 each and weight only 10.8lbs.
But for some reason I got myself the 15" Konig Subzero (12.9lbs, still ok weight IMO).

not all motegi rims are heavy. Their motegi Traklites are nice and light. Ive looked at their rims and it seems the only ones worth getting are either the Traklites or RT-5's. 16" RT-5's only weight 16lbs and a 1:1 ratio is decent. I have rota's and they bent but all rims get bent so theres no use in putting rims down cuz one person bent them. I wouldnt post asking ppl how things are or if they like em. Most ppl dont kno shit and talk outa their ass or from "what they've heard" so look around research wheel weights yourself. If u have to ask someone...ask someone that knows their shit or at least has SOME experience on the track.

    CHILDREN CALM THE HELL DOWN.

the Traklites are nice wheels...they're lightweight. i DON'T know how brittle they are, but i'd imagine they're not incredibly sturdy - i've seen more than a few sets of Motegis crack after a few bad bumps - so i see them as a track-only wheel. otherwise, i'm not so much a fan of Motegi wheels.

I read this whole thread, but I still did not get much information out of it, just opinions and arguing.

Anyway, maybe doing a little research can pay off, luckily other people have written some, here you go:

The Tire Rack Wheel Tech Section:

    http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/wheeltech.htm

The Tire Rack recommendation on how to use wheels for the track:

    http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/racewheels.htm

And one of my personal favorites how wheels are constructed and the different types of casting which makes some wheels lighter and more expensive, and others cheaper and heavier:

    http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/construc.htm

Now I know some of you have a problem with reading mre than one paragraph, but believe me it is a good read, and who knows you may even be able to et some good reliable info out of it! ;)
