More question about Disabling DRL.....Electrical question !!

    topic 1634&sid=da2a6ab02cb4c8b9bf21d0272a2ef8f7

I am attempting to disable my DRL using the instruction listed in above link.
However, I have couple of question to ask. I know nothing about electrical wiring....

    1) He said, "Grounding this wire DISABLES your DRL and your Auto lights."
What does he mean by grounding this wire?

    2) Is he basically asking us to cut that yellow wire in half? If yes, what do you do with those two ends?

    3) If I attach a generic switch between those two ends, do I need to ground anything?
It seems like all switches comes with ground wires.

    4) When you ground something, what is it mean? How do you ground?

Okay, if you just simply cut the yellow wire, the DRL's will still work. So you have to ground the wire coming from the DRL box.

Grounding a wire is kinda just grounding it to the chassis or anywhere you see a screw that's attached to any metal part on the car.

If you want to rig a switch, connect the yellow wire from the DRL box, and connect a ground wire. When the switch is on, grounds the yellow wire, when it's off, it's as if you just cut the wire.

I just did this on Thursday.

yea the computer is a "dummy" computer, if you dont ground it, it still thinks that the wire is fine, if you do ground it, theres no signal at all coming into it, so it shuts it off.

You just made it more confusing......

If I just cut the yellow wire, and ground the wire coming from the DRL box, what do I do with the other end? Do I have to do anything with it, or just leave it alone?

Is it possible for someone to draw a schematic drawing or diagram of the wiring (with a switch) in jpg format and attach here. I was hoping that someone would show some pictures in DIY section, but it is not happening.

    I was thinking...

Somebody should build a simple module that would plug in between the harness and the DRL module. Then you could turn on or off the DRL's without cutting into your wires. It would also be much less noticable compared with duct tape, extra wire, and a switch.

The wires are not in correct order here, but this is an idea of what I mean

There would be a plugin module that would basically be a switch on some leads and straight through on the rest.

Update: It could be a lot smaller than this image, closer to:

somone over at the matrix forum said all you had to do was unplug the DRL sensor under the dash. anyone tried this yet? seems the most reversable/ non noticable fix yet.

nah i just cut the wire and added a switch. look at my DIY, i got a detailed sketch of how to do it but now that i have HID's, i gotta make it more permanent, but that's gonna happen if and when i get my interior LED setup done, we'll have to wait and see i guess.

I didn't do anything with the other end. Just left it basically the way it was after I cut it

Can anybody explain what the extra ground wire is needed for? From the disgram above, it doesn't look like it will affect the lights at all.

Just look at moonshadowmadness DIY and you'll understand it a lot better....those diagrams are not the easiest things to understand, sometimes they make simple things look harder than they really are.

Got it. The diagram's fine except that the word "cutted" threw me off. Does anyone know where the yellow wire goes (not the DRL end, the other end). If it goes to a module that has an open/ground type output, then there is a way to disable the DRL without cutting the wire.
