LOOKING TO BUY HID KIT, NEED ADVICE

I'm looking to buy an HID kit and I'm leaning towards Philips. I'm just wondering if the bulbs will melt the headlight housing? Before I go spending money (which I have for this case) do I have to consider anything else or anything else I should know about? Please holla!

I bought mine a year ago, and there hasn't been a problem so far. I recommend at least a 6500k HID conversion kit, or whichever gets you BLUE (not crap white or purple). Mine was from Japan with a generic HID PRO name. Anyways cops barely pull you over for that shyt, but if they wanted to they could if the output is blue and if its not from a factory. Get them in the fogs as well if you can  .

umm you do know the blue provides less light and lumens than the white right? Id recommend white like what stock real HIDs are. 4500K-5100K is best

The higher the Kelvin temperature, the better, but not insanely high like those 14000k I've heard of. White seems too plain to me, and its better than stock. The lumen output is insignificant to me do to m color choice.

    LoL,
now who told you the higher the kevlin temperature the better? that is not true. Why do you think mercedes, acura, lexus, bmw all use HIDs rated at around 4500-4700K? Kelvins just measure the color the light output is. And because blue wavelengths scatter more than white light it produces more glare and less vissability. Now dont get me wrong, HIDs are still going to give a lot more light output than stock bulbs. But im just saying for optimal vissability white light is the best and thats what you see in all the luxary cars around you. but if you liek the blue look then go for it :p

Raising the Kelvin temp. to an extent is okay because the tradeoff of less visibility is worth the cool look of a blue-ish color. Ehhh... I went with an S2000 HID retrofit in my projector headlamps (http://www.powerplayhouse.com/dk2/diyhid.html). Honda uses Philips D2S bulbs (4100K color temp.).

For the HID kit, you have to realize that there is no such thing as a Philips HID kit since Philips makes the bulbs only and they do not produce a full kit themselves. There are quite a few reputable makers of ballasts/igniters out there. And HIDs use less power than stock headlamps, so they are actually cooler, not hotter. They just require like a 10,000 volt jolt to ignite the Xenon gas or some process like that.

I've lookat XenonDepot's kits (xenondepot.com) and they look pretty good. I'm leery about their XtremeHID kits though. The Regular XenonDepot HID Conversion kits look pretty good though.

Don't get a Mcculloch kit. They will blow your stock wiring harness. If you get it, get a headlight battery relay harness.

I helped install a CATZ HID kit awhile ago and was real impressed with it. They're expensive, but seem WELL worth it.

Can't get CATZ HID anymore since it's illegal to sell aftermarket HID kits in USA now. Wiring harness upgrade is seriously a must to protect the whole system. suvlights.com sells a really good battery relay harness.

Get it sent over from some asian country like japan or china. Buying any HID is illegal no matter how you look at it.

Not if you buy it with the car... LOL. Anyone got a few extra $30K or so lieing around for me to get an HID upgrade? And a minor performance upgrade as well. :-D

Thanks for the response! I think no matter what K rating you get it is still brighter and produces more lumens than stock bulbs so I'm not that worried. I'll either go with white ~4K or my favorite color purple ~12-14K, not blue. Too bad I can't walk into a store and see for myself what they actually look like. I've dissabled the DRL using the yellow grounding method. Should I add eyelids to keep the light at a certain height level (if you can picture this)? I don't want to retrofit but rather just do a plug and play. Where would I secure the ballasts though? Please post pictures or links if anyone has done this of your engine compartment. Thank you gentlemen!

Has anyone changed their fogs to yellow? Changing the bulb color or adding a yellow bulb casing, which is better?

I've seen people drilling holes into the metal around the strut tower to secure their ballasts. Maybe has something to do with keeping the whole thing grounded.

Who wants their HID kit to look like a factories? That's why you show the difference, but w/e this convo is going nowhere. Your right about your info, but I guess its all about personal choice in the end.

haha putting HID on corolla wont make it look factory and it will be a difference. cuz corollas come w/ halogens. But yea in the end, if u want lexus/bmw/mercedes-like hide, lumens count. But if its for show, any color. but HID will still be brighter than Halogens

What I meant by factory, was a standard HID projector set up, not a factory corolla. Everyone knows there never will be a factory hid corolla until who knows... 2010?

nice i found this from xenondepot's webpage:

    "Temperature:

Color Temperature is a measurement in Degrees Kelvin that indicates the hue of a specific type of light source. Many people believe the misconception that colour temperature is a rating of the brightness of the bulb or HID kit. This belief is completely false. The reality of the matter is that the higher the colour temperature, the less useable light output you will obtain. A perfect example would be a black light. This light has a colour temperature of approx 12,000k and has almost no useable light or lumens output. Higher K kits such as 7000k, 7500k, etc. have been manufactured for individuals that are more concerned about the actual colour output of their lights as opposed to the actual useable light output they produce."

    yeah guys...
the science of light is the higher the kelvin the lower the usable light output.

you can get a nice median of color and brightness

best color of an oem philips bulb that i have used personally was the
    philips D2S 85123
    theses are very rare

highest kit that i have used was globalpremiers 8000k
it wasnt as bright as a 5000k or 4300k kit but the color is there.

    to each his own

AT MY SHOP WE SELL ONLY 'McCULLOCH' H.I.D. KITS. WE HAVE SOLD OVER 70 KITS AND ONLY HAD 1 PROBLEM SO FAR. THEY HAVE 6000K, 8000K, AND 10,000K ALL IN BLUE, WHITE OR PURPLE. THE MOST COMMON IS THE 8000K BLUE. IT HAS A GREAT LITE BLUE TINT AND A GREAT PROJECTION. SO MY OPINION IS McCULLOCH H.I.D. KITS
