they make a thing called CAMCON and yes it's a vvti controller. There's a link about it somewhere in 9thgencorolla.com

vvt-i is linear. in no way does it just kick in like you'd think. if you're thinking about having that 'kick' , there's vvtl-i featured in 2zz-ge. the vvt-i controller lets you adjust the open and shut time of the valves. with proper tuning on it you might be able to shoot an extra 10hp.

The CAMCON can't control VVTI engagement points. It only does that for VTEC.

Yea there's no kick like the vvtl-i or the i-vtec you know and well the vtec doesn't kick up either, the vtec is just like the vvt-i it just controls the valve control. Most people on 9thgencorolla.com are happy with the camcon cause they can notice a difference on the power curve and I think a couple of people have dynoed and gained 12+ hp depending on mods and altitude

yes sir down at sea level it can safely, just make sure you tune it with emanage or something, upgrade the injectors and fuel pump, cooling too of course..... up here at mile high my buddy with his 99 Corolla LE runs 14 psi no prob safely on stock motor (he's up in the margin though lol)..... I got a little something for Denver coming on too if things go right today and tomorrow :)
