    Leather seat people, firmness/support?

I'm leaning strongly towards getting a Corolla, but the mushy unsupportive seats are a real turn off, potentially a deal breaker  :x

I'd spring for the leather seats if they are firmer and more supportive, what's the consensus on that?

The problem with the seats, leather or not, is the extremely flat seating surface. It offers little support for the old thighs. With the automatic it's not that big of a deal but with the 5 speed it is true agony with any trip over 30 minutes.

With a friend's help I chose to use a Temperpedic (brand name) pillow to cure the no thigh support problem. The pillow is made of the NASA foam which conforms to your body parts and returns to its original shape when the pressure is removed. The pillow was too thick initially and it hardens as the temperature drops. I put the pillow in the freezer and literally carved the shape that I wanted with a bread knife until it was thin under my arse and thicker under my thighs. This did take several attempts because as the foam warms it just won't cut well as when cold. My friend made a washable zippered cover for the "whittled" pillow. The poor seat design is my main pain with this car. Even though I have back problems there is no problem whatsoever with lumbar support, just the poor thigh support. People six feet tall and over have the most difficulty with the seat. Shorter folks with shorter legs have no grief whatsoever.

Frankly I couldn't drive the car without it. The only other choice for me was to replace the seat at an exorbitant cost. For about $80.00 and a bit of work the seat can be made to conform to anyone. Is this a pain? Yes but if you have already bought the car, as I did, and then discovered the poor seat design, it was a matter of innovation versus $$$. Again, the seating is not as crucial with the auto trans.

Thumbs up for innovating! I guess I never thought of your solution. Perhaps I could get the bottom cushion lenghtened and reupholstered. Thanks for the great idea!
