    LCD Screens

How many people in this forum have put dvd players or ps2 or Xbox in their cars. Im thinking about doing it just trying to figure out what would look the best.

    Use an XBOX. :)

I am thinking of mounting a 6-7" LCD where the stock HU goes. I'll do that hopefully soon.

Im not sure on the exact size but im putting a widescreen alpine in there. It will be tight with a playstation and then my kenwood deck in one of the lower compartments.

Well im gonna have it custom fit into the glove box so I can still conceal it. The screen is gonna look nice though in that space once its all shaved.

Best bet is grab a Panasonic in dash or the NEW alpine in dash... both have built in DVD, include 7 inch widescreens, and the panasonic has a awesome feature where the screen can move 20 degrees side to side too! I personally like the Panasonic because of the picture quality and the fact that for the price you get a LOT of technology! The new alpine is just sick though... lot of money :( the Pioneers suck because you HAVE to use the remote for 80% of the features, the Kenwood is only 6.5 inches and is a manual flip up, plus the graphics on there suck ass... touch screen is cool though! And the older Alpines are a waste due to lack of features for the over inflated price.... personal opinion though if you want to use a game unit is grab the Kenwood screen/CD player, its only $1,000 bucks and then buy an Xbox for your DVD and video gaming... that kenwood is ok because your not using the features anyways and its still touchscreen!

i agree with what you got to say, but i'd rather have a flush look like that, got any suggestions on screens like that oh and a HU that plays DVD's, MP3's and CD (R-RW)'s.
i'm not getting one now but it never hurts to price things and see how much needs to be saved up...

That pic is a 7" WideScreen LCD flushed into the stock DIN location. The "frame" around it is fiberglass.

    hey xtm, quick ?
i know you know a lot about audio stuff so i figured i'd ask, btw this is not for any audio use my other project, do you by anychance know how to make like a housing for anything at home that can then be painted to your choice of color, say for instance if i wanted to do a custom sub box for edtes in the trunk. i have a lighting project i'm working on and that may be the easiest way for me to go on any further, if i can fabricate what i need myself and paint it a color of my choice.
i know i may not be very clear but i'll send you more details via PM, but if you do, let me know please.

Hey Achint, haven't talked to you in awhile, sup? :)

For fabricating any other shape other than straight boxes, Fiberglass is your answer. You basically need a Fiberglass repair kit (Comes with fiberglass cloth, resin, and catalyst) But the main foundation should be a solid MDF, covered with fleece, and soaked with fiberglass resin. You basically create shapes by stretching the fleece and pouring fiberglass resin on it until it hardens, then you can sand it. After that you can apply primer and then paint it with the color of your choice.

I don't know if I answered your question correctly, What EXACTLY are you planning to work on? Let me know because I am currently working on TONS of Fiberglass panels as we speak and I can take pics.

sweet, i just sent you another PM, sorry i'm very new at this so i dont quite know all the terminology but if you have some sort of chat client, pleas do give me a shout so i can explain a little better, i did the best to tell you what i'm trying to do but i know it need a better description of the project, perhaps tomorrow i'll take some pix and do a little html page to link you to. the other thing is i'm still interested in doint that custome sub box that goes in the edges of the trunk so this smaller project will definitely be a much easier and inexpensive learning experience

also where can i get the fiberglass repair kit. this is definitely the kind of info i was looking for. i'm glad we have spealized people on the board.

    Achint,

The Fiberglass Kit costs about $10 in Home Depot.. I suggest getting one and start fiberglassing anything, just to get your feet wet on fabrication. Once you get the "feel" of it, you can then buy materials separately (ie. Fleece, Resin, etc)

Thread Starter: Sorry we got off-topic.

    Here's one: topic 1991

That's not the latest though. I decided to go ALL OUT and Fiberglassed the WHOLE damn trunk, but it's still a work on progress. I will post construction pics when I get home tonight
