K&N air filter and MAF sensor

Hello everyone. I just ordered an K&N air filter. Been wanting 1 for a long time!
Been doing some research and seems like the oils from the K&N filter seems to be messing up the MAF sensors near the intake. Anybody have a K&N installed? Any problems? Any feedback would be appreciated. Filter should be delivered soon. Thanks guys!

humm interesting question. thier is a chance that it can mess up your MAF sensor. but that chance is very, very slim. i think you'll be alright. but i am still wondring why would you want to change your filter.? the stock one's are more than adequte.

Of course! Just thinking about the bolt ons already given me 2 HP. Trust me, if yellow stickers on a car can add 30 HP, these modifications will definately add HP.

The only problem is the oil from the filter getting onto the sensor wire in the MAF sensor. If that happens, just remove the sensor and spray it out good with electrical parts cleaner - avoid using a Q-tip if at all possible....the wire is delicate and breaking it will land you in some deep doo-doo b/c those things aren't cheap.

Anyhow....would just a K&N filter actually help performance??

K&N filters are among the best filters you can replace. I'm not really concerned with the claims of their product what I'm concerned is that some vehicles MAF sensors are more problematic than others and just some type of contamination such as the oil from the K&N might damage sensitive sensors. Just seeing and taking a poll to see if anybodys had any type of problems with these filters especially with the corollas. Probably looking at a 5-10 HP gain depending on vehicle application and the type of setup you already have. My car started at a 125 HP but I've added a TRD exhaust and now a performance air filter. Looking at a total of 135 HP now. So a good ten HP gain isn't too bad just with bolt on modifications!

Well, actually I do need to change my filter. From the reviews that I've read, K&N filters last the life of your car and only needs cleaning every 50k miles. For the price of the filter and the performance gains, I thought it'd be a good idea. I've already bought the filter but this is what I'm going to do. From what I've read, excessive oil from the filters might damage the MAF sensors. I've read in forums that people who install newly purchase filters usually let the filter sit outside on some paper towels to air dry it naturally and to absorb excess oil just in case there may be excessive oil from the factory. Prolly might want to ease on the throttle since it's new. Gassing the car too hard initially might pull in oil that hasn't yet dried to an acceptable level.

Have you tried reseting the computer after you installed the K&N? if not it is worth a shot. My buddy had similar problems with a talon and he disconnected his battery for about 20 min. and it worked fine.

My check engine light just came on and i got it fixed and the oil from my K&N got the MAF wire dirty and it also lets more dirt and the oil into your engine. I'm taking my K&N out and leaving it out.

it will get your Maf sensor dirty. you can just clean it.
my was very dirty before from the oil, even the CEL come on.
after i clean it, then it fine now.

don't worry about it too much if you get it brrand new.
the oil on it is just right .
dont' put too much oil , when you recharge it afterwards.

maybe this mods does not give you good power. it does allow more air suck in the car.

i don't think that will be a problem, because the new cars now control the air/fuel via the car cpu. it will olny allow the correct amount it needs. so it will not get more air inside the combustion chamber. so why do many peeps say it gets more better airflow is beyond me. maybe back in the old days when the cars were not cpu controlled it worked. but not now. but i have been wrong before.
p.s. now if you modify the cpu chip to take in more air/fuel then you may want to get a k&n. but until you change the air to fuel ratio in the controller your still getting the same amount of air even if you took out your air filter. but it will sound louder and some peeps associate noise with speed. if it sounds faster it must be faster. i myself don't associate noise with speed. i'm thinking of buying an air intake for my 03. i've been hearing about people having MAF problems and so on. is this only for K&N air intakes or any brand of air intake?? for those of you who do have air intake, did you gain any power at all?
    thanks.
