    Just a General amp/sub question?

I am looking at changing to a 12" subwoofer. I have now an eclipse 10" and am looking at going to an Alpine Type R 12". I am pushing the 10 w/ a RF punch 300 which is pushing 300 into the 10". Will this amp be enough power to make the alpine thump? I plan on getting something bigger eventually, but want to know if this amp will suffice for now. Thanks for the input.

depends on your RMS on your sub. For EX. if its 400rms and your amp is only 200watts it won't perform how its supose to and you will damage your sub over time if u under power it.

When people don’t specify RMS or peak, then I just assume that’s peak. For Rockford, 300 W peak is150 W RMS. That will be enough if the other speakers are run from stock HU. If your other speakers are run 20 – 30 W RMS, then you will need 200 – 250 W RMS for the sub.

I’m running 150 W RMS for one 10” and 30 W RMS X 4 for other speakers. Since sub is too weak, I lowered the gain on other speakers to about 20 W RMS then they balance pretty good.

Re: Just a General amp/sub question?

No it is not big enough to fully enjoy the Alpine Type R These are a large Dual Voice Coil sub that loves lots of power.
I have a Alpine V12 Mono Amp which is rated at as a 900Watt Max amp with 500W Rms to a 2 ohm loadat 14.4 volts so im getting a new battery and going to do some grounding work to make sure i get as much voltage to the amp as possible. These subs love power and i am trying to get as much as i can to them. i also got the 2 ohm version of the type R as you can also get them in 4 ohm.
if you plan on getting a more powerful amp in the near future go with the alpine sub or find a less demanding sub in a 12 inch size. Alpine also has a Type S sub that requires less power but still is a good sub and dual voicecoil.
