Engine japanese engines

    japanese engines

    I was reading in a couple places that we cannot use JDM engines because they have no EGR.. but neither does the stock corolla engine?!? 98+ does this mean there is some sort of exemption based on having a corolla? or are all our cars illegal.. I dun get it :confused:

    i think it has to do wether or not that is a catalytic converter and how the O2 sensor operates in conjunction with the fuel system. and how the system operates the fuel to air ratio.

    my auto32 teacher said some EGR's are like in the ecu or something

    heh yur auto teacher is on crack... EGR is Exhaust Gas Return... If there is no mechanical mechanism for return, it does not exist. period. the 98+ do not have EGR's on them, however they do some funky ass overlap on the valve timing which does something... kinda/sorta similar. Not exactly though. It's difficult to explain.

    I check into it and it has to do with something of how the engine's valves overlap and how the firing order and opening and closing of the valves.In return having no return of exhaust gases.

    yeah that thing... still not ECU controlled (except the firing timing) however, the actual overlapping of the valves is a mechanical timing, uncontroled by the ECU. (remember, non vvt-i 1zz's don't have egr's either and use the same technology for the overlapping, we just don't have any dynamic control, its all static)
