they did. the twin turbo supra, the turbo MR2, the all-trac celica. main reason why cars really get pulled. no one buys them. sure in the 3rd party people are buying those 3 cars. but as far as when they were being offered, the sales numbers just weren't that high. plus, as much as i would love a twin turbo supra. never will i buy one for the same price as it was new or more.

turbo MR2 sales dropped because many states ditched the turbo model. it just couldn't pass emissions anymore.

plus from the looks of things. american's don't want sporty. they want the station wagons of today; the SUV's. only enthusiasts/teenagers/etc are into modifying cars/high horsepower/etc. which compared to the driving population of the United States, isn't that high of a percentage.

coming from a guy that has a honda and toyota..lemme say that my civic is much more fun to drive than my corolla..but then again i have an SI and it is a 5 speed..

my corolla gets a shitload of more mileage on the gas tank than the SI, i get about 250 on the SI, but i get close to 310 on the corolla..

my value on the corolla, LE, 78k miles, 1998 is about 4,000..
my value on the civic, SI, 40k miles, 2000 is about 11,000..

COROLLA IS WAY MORE COMFY THAN CIVIC, i just had to throw that in..
since i go to sacramento a lot, like almost once a week..i can tell you, that sittin the civic seats are like sitting on a block of wood..the corolla is much more comfy..but now that i got integra type R seats in there, it's way better than before..

    so my vote..TOYOTA!
honda put a whole bunch of crap in their cars, only reason my civic is better than corolla is cause it's faster..lol..but you can't compare an LE to an SI right?!

You can't compare an ordinary Corolla with probably the BEST Civic North America has ever seen. No comparison.

I agree. The cars that Toyota markets aggressively become a status symbol. 4 Runner and Sienna are two examples. They had some of the best ad campaigns for those car that got people's adrenaline going. Now I see tons and tons of 4 runners by elite class people in downtown after work. I see Mazda and Mistubishi advertising frenzy on TV for Mazda 3 and 6 and Galant. They are almost desperate to get new customers. I do not see any Toyota adds. Toyota needs to markets their new products and the new direction of more sportiness on TV like they have been doing for Scion and that would help break stereotypes.

well that basically sums it up why toyota is the best car company out there now, they have like 40% of the awards. Anyone looking at a new car should just look at those

Being a hardcore Toyota loyalist, I agree Corollarider. They only need to think less about commercialism and put out sporty cars like the Germans and they would be perfect. :)

Very simple, Hondas have a higher price to begin with and then the resale is based on a constant price depreciation over the course of X number of years. Although, the resale difference is about $2000 at best in comparable models with comparable features.

No doubt, Honda beats Toyota in making cars more enjoyable to drive hands down.

You should also know that Toyota has the best quality and reliability records. There was a posting here a few months ago, which had a list of top 20 most problematic vehicles. Honda had quite a few. Toyota had none. Honda has had some massive transmission failures in the last 5 years ( Acura CL Type S: some of them had transmission blown out 3-4 times, Accord 1998, 1999: tranny failures, Acura TSX and TL : Large scale rattling clanking problems). Toyota only had the oil gelling problem, but that was because people were not getting the proper maintenance and oil change done on time. Even then, Toyota extended their warranty up to 10 years.

well if this has anything to do with it, car and driver had a story a couple months ago about the styling and who they target. the toyota brand has an avg buyer who is like 45. honda's avg buyer is like 20. so sytling cue's def are more towards a younger buyer. the only advante i see to owning my corolla right now would be insurance. thats it.

i also know that my first scheduled maintance for my civic is 110k thousand miles. i have no clue what a toyotas is.

thats why they brought scion into play...less sales would go to the scion cars if they were toyota car.

one thing would be for toyota to start offering trd parts actaully in the car from the factory to let the consumer know hey we have parts just like the civic does. its almost sad that the dealer people dont know what they have to offer

I would like to see the average ages written on paper since you grossely exaggerated the age difference between Toyota and Honda buyers. I read an official report published in 2001 median age of car buyers. I have the precise median age for Civic and Corolla buyers ( pre 2003 models) and it was 39 for Civic and 44 for Corolla. After 2003 Corolla S, the Corolla S buyer median age has been 26. That encouraged Toyota to launch a high performance Corolla XRS in order to capture the youth( although, it has been appreciated for older and young people alike). Solara has the same story. Solara and Lexus IS300 were target for people between 35 and 40, but the median age of the new Solara and IS300 buyers has been in the late 20s. You are going to see how aggressive Toyota with get into capturing the tuner market and the youth in the near future. I can guarantee that. Why??? you may ask. Simple, today''s youth is tommorow old people. If Toyota does not capture the youth today and relies on older people to buy their cars, the young people would never buy a Toyota once they grow older and would prefer Honda over Toyota even as mature wiser people.

everyone is saying that toyota needs some power in their cars and sporty cars and better commercials....the lastest commercial i saw is the corolla xrs that is saying that an xrs is like a roller coaster. The xrs is a sporty car, and here is a commerical promoting it as a sporty car. Also, they have the solara v6 coupe/convertable...its pretty sporty, and the celica has balls but you just need to rev it high and it looks great. IMO toyota is doing an awesome job and i think they will soon excel more than honda and day by day their reputation is starting to get better than hondas.

I would say Hondas are perceived as being more reliable. Because of this, there is a premium that has been placed upon used Civics/Accords, because everyone wants it to be their first car. Add to that the tuning world's idiotic focus on the Civic and there's your reason for the higher honda resale value.
