Is there anything I can do about this clutch/gearbox?

I realize that the corolla is meant to be a cheap car that gets good gas mileage, but I honestly cannot stand this clutch or tranmission. The clutch doesn't grip worth a damn and I find I have to drop it to get it to go, especially in stop and go traffic. It seems like it either bogs out or over revs and slips and I either have to drop the clutch or start over again. It just doesn't seem to have a constant grip to it. This isn't my first manual car either. It doesn't slip with the clutch pedal released when I stomp on it in any gear so I'm guessing its not worn.

Also the gearbox is sloppy as all hell, are there any aftermarket shortshifters available? Granted I try to shift it like a drag car sometimes but I've never had any grinding problems in my Jetta or Camaro like I have with this car.

Any suggestions? I plan on changing the tranny fluid when I do the oil change coming up shortly but I don't see that fixing my issues. I'm stuck with this car for a while so I need to make it work.

TRD has a shortshifter. Get a Centerforce clutch. Seriously, do a search before you pummel the forum with the same questions. Google is your friend.

My apologies, but a search for 'sloppy transmission', 'sloppy gearbox', 'weak clutch' netted no results or irrelevant results. The shortshifter was just an added question.

I stage I or II aftermarket clutch will give you what you're looking for I think. Exedy, Centerforce, and Competition makes those.

TRD makes the quickshifter. I don't know of any other company that manufactures one.

TWM and Fidanza also make them.

TWM claims a 2.5" height reduction and a 40% throw reduction and is around $45 less than the TRD.
