Is Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF ok for power steering?

It this find to use with power steering since it's compatible with Dex III? I'm in the midst of purchasing all the fluids I need for my engine rebuild.

Should be OK - as they already make synthetic powersteering fluid that is compatible to conventional types. From what I heard, the big difference between the Toyota branded powersteering fluid and store bought ATF is in the red colored dye they use.

The power steering cap says DII or better - so you shouldn't have any problems. I would definitely flushed out the original fluid first - not quite like an oil change from dino to synthetic. With oil changes, you get a chance to do a realtively short fluid change interval - for a P/S system, most don't flush them out often enough to effectively flush out/dilute the original fluid.

Same deal goes for the automatic tranmissions on the 8th gen - flush as much of the original fluid as possible to get the most out of the synthetic fluids. I'm sure glad they still use Dexron instead of Toyota T-IV or WS in the newer Toyota trannys. Makes it easier to find on the shelf and price shop.

Cool. All the existing fluid more or less drained itself out onto the garage floor by now considering I took apart the entire engine and also had to disassemble the transmission to install the reprogramming shift kit.

ther is one thing you shoud know about Mobil One and that is the chemical compostion is more prone to boil over under extreme temperatures so unless you plan to drive realitively easy one the car i don't recommend it. I recommend getting something that is race applicable but if you use regular it will turn dark brown/burnt red very quickly. For the P/S I suggest you go with a company that has a formidable reputation such as Redline,Amsoil,Royal Purple Fluids simply because the chemical compound has higher tolerances. Companies such as Porsche, Audi, BMW, etc., use Mobil 1 Synthetic but unless you plan to put a P/S oil Cooler go with something else. The cooler does not have to be a front mount but it has to be away fromt he exhaust and off to the top or side of the engine bay . I have a small 3" 3/4" x 15" 1/2" x 2" Oil cooler located on the front right side of the engine bay.

I've had extremely bad luck with Valvoline oils in the past and i mean bad luck. i don't know why but i just have. Like i said in the past i only stick to Amsoil i have never had any problems with them at all and all components/parts that run with Amsoil run very smoothly. Its just the cost of buying them is what makes them expensive but well worth the cost. The only thing that i run stock is the engine coolant, from the dealer but everything else is upgraded. my oil changes come out to 65 bucks and, tranny fluid came out to 45+ the a new stock filter and the power steering came out to 30 bucks just for the fluid not including the flush i had done at the dealer which came out to 70. but every penny that i have spent was great and i have not had any problems, nor have my fiance' or parents reported any thing bad.still runs as good as new even with heavy modifications.

Mayhaps I'll look into Amsoil for my power steering fluid. Any idea how many quarts I'll need? I think 1 should do.

How you ended up having to put a cooler on your power steering anyway? Why is it heating up more than normal (aside from the fact your car is in Texas). Give me a call at the office if you're still up.
