    is it worth my money?

hey whats up guys. I addressed this question a while ago, but its a little different now. I plan on buying a 05-06 corolla xrs within the next 1 or 2 years. However, right now i have a 99 ce auto w/sri,exhuast. Theres this shop in town that say they could do a 5speed swap for 1000-1500. I really want a 5speed, and maybe if i got a speed in my 99, i could even wait longer for a new car. The only thing i dont understand, is will the swap they do be ok with my car? WOuldnt they need to change the ecu as well? for a tran swap, do you need to keep all parts OEM? they make it sound so easy, yet I have a hard time comprehending the details.

If you're going to sell/trade your car, look at it this way:

    Pros of a 5sp swap:
    1) More fun
    2) Better gas mileage (well..maybe)

    Cons of a 5sp swap:
    1) $1000-1500 up-front cost
    2) Much lower tradein value (automatics are already worth more than manuals..I would imagine a car that has undergone a auto/manual swap would be worth less than if it were a factory 5sp)

It's your call -- if it was me, I'd save the money for the XRS.

thats true. im going to the dealer that i bought it from. they say they have some in 5speed. the guy seemed a bit sketchy about having a 5speed rolla, but supposedly he has something. so we'll see.

see that was my original idea to go trade in my auto for the same model rolla but 5speed. like you said, you can only find one ever so often. especially in like a white or black color like im looking for. im kind of thinking about the 5speed swap. wonder if it will fuck up my car though...

Or just go trade in your auto rolla and get a 5sp same gen rolla. I believe the dealer will love to do it without any charge. Well, but the problem is only if you can find a 5sp rolla.

The whole thing with automatics having more resale value I think depends on some factors. I've had probably 50 ppl ask how much I would sell my car for on the spot. They realize its an automatic and say nevermind.

I would say just swap the car for another. Like CadetLee said, when you do go and trade it in, it might just not even be worth as much as a corolla that strated off as manual.
