Is it a dead air conditioner or what?

Back then my a/c was fine, blowing cold air and everything. Then i started to notice sometimes when i turn on my a/c it would blow out some white air, kinda looks like smoke. i just disregarded that because i thought it was nothing. then like 3 - 4 months later when i tried to turn on my a/c nothing happen! no cold air was blowing out. and it was working just a few days before too. So i thought it might be out of refrigerant or something, but i attempted to turn on the a/c again while driving to see if there's car lag(usually there's car lag when the a/c is engaged), but there wasn't any car lag! so now i think that the a/c is not engaging due to some unknown reason. I hear people say if you lack refrigerant, the a/c won't run anyway. So i bought a recharge kit (134a??), and now i am stuck with how to do it. Are there any pictures or instructions around here that i can refer to? because i seriously do not know where to look for the lines and tubes and all of that. Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Probably dead compressor. Mine's been shot for over a year. Gonna replace it (hopefully!) soon.
