well...I can speak to the near godly strength of the 2uz (tundra)...a loobe guy (like how I incorperated noob and lube...yeah...yeah? HA HA...oh sorry) left out a drain plug on a sequiauoorieah...however it's spelt...lady drove it for TWO DAYS in austin traffic with the oil light ON...they had to replace one cam...three pistons...and bearing...didn't throw a rod...

cam had heat marks on it..same with pistons...block did too so short block was ordered...DIDN'T THROW A ROD...TWO DAYS!!!

then a tundra came in with two vvt actuator codes...the two guys working on it (not noobs) were bouncing it off the rev limiter..several times...then it started making a knocking sound.

"uh...you guys check the oil level?" vvt works off of oil press...neither bank worked

It had 1 quart in it...filled it up with oil...it's been several months...comes in for regular maint...no probs or noises...these two guys get the truck everytime...and check it each time...no probs at all...damn those engines kick ass

Another guy in the shop used to work for Lexus...he's got some good stories as to the duribility of the UZ-FE series..same tech is in all the toyota engines though

I was actually told by one of our techs at Lexus who used to work only on the 1zz motor and I quote "You have to physically tell this girl that your not going to put oil in her before she starts bitching back at you about not having in it"
now thats a tough motor

well the motor might be, but not the tranny and everything else....
and i don't think mine is, even wit fully synthetic oil, and new sparks, i got smoke comin out running 5-6rpms as it shifts and right b4 it shifts.... so idk bout bullet proof, and i odn't run it on redline all the time too

and thats with the intake on, i don't know if it does it with the stock airbox and K&N air filter

idk, not sure if thats just how the motor is or what, but its puffing out smoke at high rpms right b4 shifting or right after shift.....

you running full synth in there??? if you are thats your problem.. its too smooth for our cars and Will cause it to smoke at under 75K (about when our motors are actually fully broken in. just the regular moble 1 is fine to... if thats what you use than you got something else... valve seals maby

One thing I noticed...actually scared the piss out of me...right after I had to replace a head on a 2zz...those damn things are NOISY...luckily my team leader had a newer one in his stall so I could compare valve train noise.

Mine was actually a little quieter. Too used to the new 4cyls in the camry. The 2zz is a noisy little fart.


Hey Denver Rolla...I've never heard of synthetic having that kind of problem...any articles on that? I've heard of the cam seals, crank seals, etc. leaking...but that is solved by replacing the seals...as far as I know synthetic is better because it is smoother...I'de be interested in anything you have dealing with that.

I am running Castrol High Mileage in my 02, yes I have enough miles to run that, and I have not problems with smoking or nothing else.
