K&N and similar filters aren't always the best at trapping dirt while maintaining good air flow. Sometimes it depends on the application though.

Another downside to oiled filters is the oil itself can creep up the intake system and contaminate the MAF and/or MAP sensors. One of the reasons why I discontinued use of my CAI and I no longer want a "performance" intake system. I might reconsider if I owned a turbo.

this is partly why my intake is still sitting in a box in my closet. i really don't know if it's worth it...and if i put a regular paper filter on it, would it be "less" worth it?

I put my factory system and OEM filter back in and things were fine, if not better imo (as opposed to the CAI). I just don't see it as worth it and the oil getting on the MAF sensor was the deciding factor for me.

I replace the OEM filters every 10k on my cars. They could probably go much longer but I tend to get more anal about that kind of stuff.

    you? anal? NO! :p

i just don't see the point in trying to boost "performance" in the car. with gas prices the way they are, i can't afford to have my mileage go down further.

location wouldn't have anything to do with the function of an intake.

well I dk based on what several people have told me is that the intake doesn't have any power increase here in CO since the altitude and blah blah blah so I dk I'm just saying based on what they said but I think I'm still switching to stock cause it doesn't really make a difference with an intake or not still pulls the same

i don't think the percieved "boost" is worth a dirty engine. i really doubt a claimed 5 mph will really justify a $40 filter that will dirty your intake.

I didn't notice any difference (except sound) when I installed my ELP/K&N..was it worth 100 bucks? Nope. Sounds cool, though. :p

Run it OPEN! like me! j/k i did this for race only but then later switched to regualr driving and never had any problems, no sound differences. i cut out a small plastic pipe and mated directly to my throttle body (took out all the stock box and hoses and re-rerouted.

And how did you fool the MAF sensor to make it seem like there was air flow?

i didn't i cut a piece of plastic inserted a hose (the gas tank venting hose) cut a hole just large enough to fit the MAF and glued it with epoxy. and used the stock clamp. in total it was about 4 inches long and 3 inches in diameter.also including the coupling.
