    Intercooler setup

I got a question. Instead of buying a cold air intake, couldn't we just use an intercooler to cool the incoming air. Basically one end attached to an air filter and the other end going to the manifold. What you guys think. I have an 88 turbo supra that doesn't want to start because it's not getting spark so I was thinking of using the turbo parts. But I'm just curious what an intercooler would do.

    03 corolla s 5-spd.

An MSD Ignition system will help in generating more power as far as creating bigger sparks go, but that's not the info you're probably looking for.

I wonder if Blk03Corolla has this? Maybe he can benefit from this too, what do you guys think?

The two main purposes of the intercooler are to allow more boost on a given octane level of fuel without detonation, and to help create more power by condensing the air charge. Intercoolers are very common on high boost applications (10+ psi) and on roots-style superchargers, where discharge temperatures are higher than normal. Most street supercharger systems (5-8psi) do not come standard with intercoolers which is a bummer because I like to intercool my setup too along with most of the supercharge people.

I'm not using a turbo setup. I just want to use an intercooler to cool the air instead of using the CAI, I would like to know if there's benefit to doing this. I want to install an intercooler in my 03 corolla S.

For the S/C the only way to cool it is with a water injection system. I went with an Aqua Mist system that i am very happy with. There is just really no way to intercool the TRD S/C.

Adding an intercooler on a N/A car will only create a restriction.

Yea exactly you have to modify the supercharger. Mike Safford talked about doing it but it required cutting the s/c or something. Dont remember exactly just know it requires modifying. Would be sick though. And my advice would be to build up the engine go water injection and then up the boost. The big bore kit will allow lower compression and allow more boost too :) So go that route.

Yup, not worth it at all. If you want to cool your intake charge, get some dry-ice and make a box around your air filter (usually on a SR system), it will cool it down about 50 degrees (depending on outside temp and air-flow)

i just saw a pic of the s/c from an angle i hadnt seen before and it looks like they'd have to cut into the runners right after the blower, route piping to the heat exchanger and then back up to the runners, so there would be a whole lotta piping

Yeah, I don't see a purpose in spending that much money on a TRD S/C when you could add that to the $2500 it costs to get it in the first place and have one sick ass turbo setup :?
