    intake question???

does the diameter of the tube(intake) make a lot of difference? smaller/bigger? better/worst?

    TIA

Correct intake design would maximize both air intake velocity and volumetric efficiency (cylinder filling) at all RPM's. That is dependent on both the length and diameter of the intake tube. If the tube diameter is too large it would take a while to build up air intake velocity under vacumm resulting in poor throttle response and lost of low end torque. But if the tube is too small it would starve the engine of maximum volumetric efficiency at high RPM's. The best example would be to look at AEM's intake design for the integra; They use a 2.5"diameter for LS models, 2.75" for GSR, and 3" for Type R. They all use B18 motors but the redline varies between the 3. A LS motor has the lowest redline out of the three (65-6800) so it only need a 2.5" diameter tube. With that said, I believe 2.5" is best for our corollas because the redlines for the 4AFE/7AFE/1ZZFE is only around 6K.

np, I made mines myself too. Just make sure you use either aluminum or stainless steel mandrel bent tubing. Mild steel will rust; although you can paint the outside to prevent that, the inside is a different story and you dont want your engine sucking that in. Also mandrel bent because it keeps the same cross-sectional area throughtout the tube.

diameter also has to do w/ length to travel . if you have an intake 3ft. long , having the same size pipe from filter to throttle body could cause loss in volumetric efficiency. mines 3" for this reason , since it goes to the bumper behind the blinker. mines not too bad . although i can say low end responce sucks , as where high end growls to life.

It's just for MAF with stock ECU. If you got MAP or AFM or standalone, you can igrone me here.

If you have MAF, make sure to keep MAF senor the tube stock size (2.5" for 00-02 I believe, don't know about 9th gen) coz the MAF measure the air by "flow".

Larger tube = slower air flow --> ECU think that you get less air = less gas = running lean
Smaller tube = faster air flow --> ECU think that you get more air = more gas = running rich.

    so what the heck?

i have a 3" diameter for my 98 corolla...about a foot in length...is that a bad thing?? plus my cel came on a day after i had it. Then it turned off a week after. A month later it was back on... any idea whats the problem? i think its my intake diameter...maybe i should switch to 2.5" also my filter is APC all mesh no foam...

ps: my throttle response on low rpms got slower...the car feels more sluggish... :(

    HELP!!

AE101 engines 7afe and 4afe have redline of 5800 rpm
1zzfe engine has a red line of 6800 rpm

I had a 3 inch intake in my 7afe and didn't expirience much sluggishness but defintatelly had better upper range, then again I wasn't using a short ram

Foam is pure crap. Try breathing through it. You can't. Pure mesh will flow better than foam, however it isn't fine enough to trap small dirt particles and dust. You will want to go with a K&N filter. Those are by far some of the best flowing air filters I have seen.

whats the stock diameter for intake tubing in a 8th gen? 2.25" correct me if i'm wrong... if i go 2.75" is that o.k?

oh and does the filter really make a difference with all mesh vs. mesh w/ foam?...you know air flow wise -_-

Though this might be a little off topic but does AEM even make a intake for the 07 corolla's? if not anyone know any otehr company that makes a decent intake for the 07?

As to the topic if i wanted to make a custom intake just make sure its 2.25 in diamter and perhaps a 3foot length? It should be ok?

They make them for the 03s. I would imagine you could modify it to fit the 07.

the pre 94 7a's were 5900 , the 94 and after 4a and 7a is 6200. it also depends on the ecu for auto or manual , auto was 5900 because of the sluggishness of gear change in the autotragic. the 5-speeds were 6200 b/c obviously youpush the clutch and let off the gas the rpms drop naturally , unlike an upshifting autotragic.

aem has a good dry filter too.
