    Installing Focal 165K2 splits

    Hey guys,

I drive a Corolla hatch here in Melbourne, Australia and have found this forum to be extremely useful and informative. So thanks guys, but here's the problem that I have.

I'm trying to install a set of Focal 165K2 splits in my front dorr but I've heard that they may be too deep for the doors. Anyone here has these speakers and can clarify that? If they ARE to deep, what can I do, cos I've heard these speakers and really love them.

    Thanks again.

You can make a spacer for them if they are too deep

Those speakers are very deep. They are almost an inch deeper than mine, and I have a 3/4 inch spacer installed which gives about 1/4 inch clearance when the window is down. The Australian Corolla is a different car than in North America. Try measuring the clearance - you may have room.

What does a spacer actually do? I believe that the Aust Corolla doors are alike, cos looking at the DIY section about removing door trim, the doors are similar.

Here's what I've done with mine:

The spacer is made of 3/4 inch MDF. My driver depth is 2.25 inches, so the driver protrudes into the door 1.5 inches.

Thanks for the photo, it helps explain what I should be doing.

So when the door trim goes back on you can't see the speakers? Does it go under the current speaker covers that we have?

Once the door trim is on, it looks like stock. There's enough space for the door trim to fit over the speaker with no interference.
