    Installing a TV??

just wondering if anyone here has, or has ever had a Tv in their car. thinking of putting one in my Rolla. just gotta figure out how, and what kind to get. guessing one with a built in Tuner, and at least 1 video input. heard bad things about the flip up dash ones, so i'll probably get a mountable one. just a few ?'s

    1. where do you guys think the best place to mount it would be? I live in CA and don't want my car broken into, so i'm gonna try to hide it. (and don't say "if you don't want your car broken into don't install a TV, i've heard it!)

    2. how would i connect it, and make the wires invisible, the best spot i've found so far is in front of the passenger just to the left of the shift knob, so i can probably run the wires through the dash.

k, i'm sure i have a lot more questions, but they'll come later, it's really late and i'm tired. plus there's nothing on TV.

    -nick.

In-Dash monitors are not all bad. That's like saying that amplifiers are bad. It all depends on the company. The ones out now have everything in one from CD, TV, DVD, MP3. I would reccomend Alpine if it's in the budget but if not go to your local stereo shop. They will talk to you about your different choices and if you really don't want to put in the In-Dash monitor then they will even give you suggestions on where to mount a permenant screen.

ok, i saw this after it was posted but didnt respond fast enough, if you are getting a screen for TV its a waste of your money. why
well TV recpetion like VHF (very high frecrancy) and UHF (ultra...) are much better then FM waves however, they still run along the ground, by have the dial in a station and driving your changing varables....speed, direction, elavation, and a few others, but thoes alone, they will not do much justice in the way of getting a clear signal. infact it the oppsite, you need line of sight. your too low in respect to the source to get a good line of sight, for example, a plane they are above where any obsticales would be so there is a consint line of sight. FM radio, it too runs along the ground, however the reason it is better reception then VHF UHF, is becasue its responce is much less and it bandwidth is 80% less then the VHF, UHF. when you try to dial in a TV station it will become grainy, it will look snowy, and black out will happen, as long as compleat and total drop out of audio/video.

im my oppion i would recomend a flip screen for DVD or video use only, not TV, however if you really want to have the connection then go for it, but keep inmind its not going to look like a cable box, think if it like rabit ears on a tv at home just...50% worse when driving.

the unit i will be getting is a Pioneer AVH-P7490 it plays DVD's in there respected 5.1 souround enviorment. the only unit i have found on the market. it retailes for 2800, i can get in it for whole sale price...1400

just my oppion on the unit. however i am 100% right on the way signel travles.

corol_typ_S03 is correct in saying that TV is a waste of money.....if the reason you're buying it is to watch it constantly. By putting TV in your car you won't have a great picture even 50% of the time. 80% of the time you will have a picture that you can see but has some fuz on it. You may get a crystal clear picture once in a while but not often. If you want the most out of a screen then you would need to do DVD or playstation. TV is more of an add-on piece for when you're sitting in traffic on your way to work and the freeway is all backed up and you want to watch the news to find out where the accident is at and get around it.

    My DVD

If you wanna do it right it will cost a pretty penny I have a Pioneer AVH-P7490DVD that look like this
    [IMG]
Then all it can do is play CD's, DVD's, and the radio. To watch Tv you have 2 buy a add on unit I installed it before in a car worked great but you are looking at about 3000$ for setup. I plan to do this but I have 3 jobs and have money to waste.
