Help! Install aftermarket tachometer on 02 corolla please

    ok I bought an aftermarket tachometer a few weeks ago but can't figure out how to install it on my car, so any ideas?? I saw it from another forum that I need an adapter so that the tachometer can give the correct rpm...but the adapter is like $100...is there another way to install without the adapter???????

    Why tachometer do you have? I forget what page it's on, but I installed one in my 99 corolla. It's in my thread.

    I thought it would be easier than swapping the cluster and would be cool to hook up one in my car... but looks like i have to get back to OEM stuff =(

    I swapped out the cluster on two of my rollas and everything worked out fine.
    The outside temp works with the sensor which is also plug and play.
    I have an extra cluster with tach and sensor if you are interested.

    i think the problem i mentioned is if your installing a tach on the 98-99 model...if you have a 00-02 without tach its a simple swap...

    correct me if im wrong anyone

    I have a 99 and swapped a 01-02 cluster just fine. CBass can you post a link to that page in my thread too? Too lazy to do it from my phone. It's on one of the last few pages. That should help the OP too.

    I did the swap on a 98-00, but i used the cluster with tach off a 98-00.
    They gauges changed a little with the 01-02 so i don't think they are interchangable

    Well mine is a touring cluster and I was pretty sure it was proven many times that they are all interchangeable.

    I thought they were all interchangable but im not sure. I have extra clusters and both 8 and 8.5 so I can test it and find out.

    Cbass, your wrong like always. I too had a 99 and I swapped in a 01-02 cluster with tach and everything worked including the temp senor. (which I dearly miss)

    I gotta stop going over to TN bunch of useless info that is wrong....WAIT, the temp sensor was added to the corollas that did not have a tach? then why does it say -E on the temp thingy? you had to put that in

    and im not always wrong :(

    OP if you want a touring edition cluster i can get you one for $50, 2 corollas here at my junk yard have them

    It says -E because you do not have the sensor plugged ino the harness at the front of the car. I had that too in mine when I installed the new cluster and it got annoying so I went to a junkyard and found one. All the 8th gen corollas come with the wiring for it, just not all have the sensor plugged in because they dont have the tach cluster.

    why would Toyota do shit like that :mad: ...same with the LE, it has the wiring harness there but no fog lights....i wonder if those with manual windows and mirrors have the actual harness installed for the power option...

    Its apart of the assembly process. All the cars come with the option to have the additional equipment but later down the line when it comes to dividing them into group ie; LE LX or VE, thats when they add or dont add the features.
