Inner tie rod ends and axles..

    ..sigh..the downside of having a high-mileage car.

Took mine in for an alignment, and they said my inner tie rod ends are shot and won't hold an alignment. I'm looking at ~$280 for the both of them..

My axles are starting to make weird sounds as well..like the sound before they make the sound that means they're going to break, if you follow what I'm saying. :p

So..anyways -- is 280 a decent deal for both inner tie rod ends? I'm going to replace the axles with a friend..saves me about $120..

well all depends on how much they are, i used to be an alingment tech for Goodyear. figure you should replace the outter ones too, to get the best out of the alingment, if they are newer already no worries. but it's easy to do the inners. if you do the outters too you'll save on labor. at least you should if the shop doesnt rip you off and charge you book time for both. doesnt seem to bad, but make sure the alingment is included with that price also

yeah inners take a special tool to take them off "sometimes" i've been able to use a cresent wrench sometimes. but they have to take the outters off to replace the inners that why i said replace those also

Tires Plus quoted $145/ea for the tie rod ends..plus 40 bucks for an alignment. I took it to the place that installed my clutch -- they're giving me a better price, and said they can get it close enough to aligned that it won't be an immediate concern (from my current condition, I have uneven tire wear after a week..).

The outer tie rod ends don't look too hard to replace, but I was told the inner ones require special tool(s)..?

Eh..the place that mounted my tires would've done it for 250 with alignment. That sucks..I paid 305 after tax w/o alignment. :(

I get a slight clicking/cracking noise (hard to describe..a light click, I guess) in the transition from engine braking to accelerating. I'm not sure if it's a loose suspension component or my axles starting to go..

One of my Tokicos (only ~18 months old) looked like it was leaking..two mechanics said it was -- I cleaned it off (black dirty crap)..I'm hoping that I drove through oil or something..and maybe the strut isn't leaking..

see I had the same problem. it was my inner-tie rods. . . they were making a bumping sound from the front of the car. they were extremely loose. (due to the previous owner) but yea I got that done I got my brakes done and an alignment so my car is handling purdy now :D
