depends where you live, i can get sub-titled editions in new york of japanese films, not as good quality as a official dvd but it does the job for 5 bucks

Yeah, that's true, i mean, I bought all the initial d stages, full legal versions, for like $50 from some ebay guy in hong kong.

But still, we're gonna have to wait a bit for it to come out on video in asia, then hope that it has english subtitles.

haha, i downloaded every stage before I bought the dvd's. It's better watching it on t.v. all in japanese instead of 10 different languages with sometimes crappy translations.

That movie really does look awesome, except the drifts look a little slower than in the anime versions

I know what u mean man. Sucks how I can't understand the language and its worse when they change languages. I'm glad they got subtitles. Oh, and even though the drifts look slower, atleast its got more smoke and can see the entire thing better. The anime versions was really dark and hard to so. Well it was for me. Probably because I downloaded them.

I'm from Hong Kong, and the last I heard of the movie was almost a year ago, where it said the movie would feature big stars that girls there will drool over. Actors like Nicholas Tse, Louis Koo (I think) and other big names there will be on the movie. The film will be done at the mountains where the original Initial D stages were ripped from. I believe it'd be released as Chinese.

...and if I remember correctly, the actual drifting will be done by professional drift drivers from Japan. (seriously, Hong Kong people doesn't know how to drift, what with small crowded roads and all)

It did sound like they were speaking chinese...kinda funny you make a real life vesion of a japanese tv series in chinese.

whoo hoo..thank god i know Chinese, im originally from hong kong too so i know those actors in the movie, supposedly its Nicholas Tse, Edison Chen, also some other big name dudes. I think they found pretty good people for the roles tho. Nicholas Tse does look like Takumi

Nicholas Tse won't be able to pull of takumi's relaxed care-free attitude. All he can do is act like a hk gangster

They do the drift slow just for safety reason. Overall, it doesnt look that bad.

For those who dont know the movie will be a Cantonese movie and is produced by Hong Kong studio Media Asia Group. The budget for the movie is $7.7 million US. The filming begun in October 2003 in China and also Japan. Three Toyota AE86 Sprinter Treuno's were specially made by Toyota for this project.

Hong Kong actor/singer Edison Chen Koon Hei was to play lead role of Fujiwara Takumi but was then later offered the role of rival racer; Takahashi Ryosuke which was rumored to be played by Hong Kong actor/singer Nicholas Tse Ting Fung. Replacing Edison was Taiwan mega pop star Jay Chou Kit Lun, this will be Jay's first full length feature movie (he has already had a movie based on him called 'Hidden Track' which he played a cameo role). The part of Bunta was first given to the legendary Hong Kong actor/singer Andy Lau Tak Wah, but due to unknown reasons Andy dropped the role, it was then given to Hong Kong actor/singer Anthony Wong Chau Sang. Korean singer Hyori Lee was to play the role of Natsuki Mogi but the role was later given to Japanese actress Anne Suzuki. Other roles were given to Shawn Yue Man Lok (Nakazato Takeshi), Chapman To Man Chat (Takeuchi Itsuki), Jordan Chan Siu Chun (Kyouchii Sudou) and Kenny Bee (Tachibana Yuichi).

The live action Initial D movie is set to be released early 2005.

itll come out on VCD in like 5 months, and itll have english subtitles thatll have weird translations, like in shaolin soccer -- translated word to "lame" when it's supposed to be "crippled". i'm gonna probably enjoy it and watch it nonstop

go 2 ur nearest big city, find the hood and buy the bootleg version of the 1 shown in american theaters
