    impressed with saturn's paint durability

*** now before you go and flame me for being a vandal or a punk, i've already heard plenty of that from the dicks at scionlife.com. i did this just to test out the surface of saturns. it didn't leave very little visible harm to the surface and i would never do it to someone elses car. this was just to test the surface, her car is in terrible shape to begin with so one 1/2" scratch that isn't even visible unless you look for it, won't bother anyone

ok, my mom has a friend who drives a saturn, i don't know what kind it is because saturns before the ion never had their names on the car. it's like at least 5 years old. i don't like her. and she always parks in my spot. so today i wanted to see what would happen if i tried to scratch her car. i figured it would scratch the paint off the plastic and bring t down to a black primer or something or down to a different colored plastic.

nope. i scratched hard, in a small area, by where she would put her keys in, she treats this car like crap, i figured she wouldnt ever notice. so i dug hard with a sharp key into the surface. it didn't barely show any damage. so i got an icepick and dug in harder to scratch it. i scratched it like a half inch, maybe a millimeter or 2 deep and it was all the same color. i guess the plastic panels are colored all the way through.

this pissed me off. because i scatched my scion's crappy paint a week ago washing it. i accidently dragged my fingernail on the painted area around the grill. i wasn't even pressing hard, it just grazed it. it left a scratch in the clearcoat. what the heck.

if it makes you feel any better, my roommate's an asshole, and whenever i see his car i give it a swift kick on the bodywork.

there's a new dent everytime i see the car, but that foo barely seemed to notice. so i have my fun. hell, he doesn't even wash his car.

They are made of plastic composites. Remember the old saturn commercials where all sorts of things hit a parked saturn but in the end nothing happens to it? Not even a dent? On the bad side is that when one gets hit real hard the plastic breaks off and leave a huge hole.

another downside is you can't just weld in a new piece, obviously, because it's plastic...so if one large body panel has a hole, either you deal or you replace the whole panel.

the upside is the original ecotec(same thing that's in newer cavaliers, sunfires, cobalts, solstice, ion redline, and some Saabs) came in the saturn line - it was their test dummy. why is this good? the original ecotec was easily boosted...heh. i have a friend with a 1995 saturn coupe that gets a good 13 second quarter mile.

I saw one driving down the street the other day dragging melted pieces of the drivers side all the way back to the rear tails... I just think that the plastic is the color of the car. I didn't have time to get my camera out and i missed it, I was angry

^^ Actually I'm pretty sure I've read that somewhere, no paint, just really good plastic. Dent proof and yet still very safe for the occupants.

If the world ever comes to an end you'll want to be in either a Hummer, a Volvo, or a Saturn. :D

i'm with eric on the vandalization.

i've NEVER actually destroyed/attempted to damage someone's personal property...that's INFANTILE to say the least.

i'd never read the original post, just saw Laz's and replied to that. i give a huge thumbsdown to this post and ANYONE who compliments the original poster for willingly damaging someone else's property.

so then you call your HOA...if it's truly YOUR parking spot, go through the appropriate authorities, rather than vigilante justice. that ends up falling back on you - and imagine how dumb you'd look for taking out your anger like a child on someone else's things?

fucking jackass...way to keep some authority as a moderator around here, by admitting you'd break the law. [IMG]

have you had your car vandalized for no reason? i have...there was no motive, no warning, no reason for it...and it cost me dearly.

keep something else in mind. my title is resident bitch for a reason. right now, you deserve my ire...threatening to damage someone else's car is STUPID. joking about it is just as stupid.

Every body panel on a Saturn (well up to like 99 for the 4 doors, as far as i know) can be removed quite easily (and i mean easily, like give me 20 minutes and all the body panels are off the car), except for the roof, which is steel and the hood can be removed easily, but the hood is steel also (plastic is way too light).

As for nice paints on Saturns... here' you guys go :)

My bad I didn't mean to "assume". The only time I did it was when I found out who vandalized my car that's about it but for the hell of it nope.

When I was a sophomore in college, someone put sand in my gas tank. F-ed things up good.

I had a feeling who it was, and about a year later, that guy was stupid and admitted to it, thinking it was over.

Last day of college, during exam week, he came out to get in his beat ass jeep, and there he saw it: A hole in his windshield with a cinderblock sitting inside his car.

What goes around, comes around. His windshield: 350 My fuel system...1800.

And no, I wasnt the one that actually did the throwing of said cinderblock. Hehe. But I would never vandalize someones car just for the hell of it, like the poster of this thread.

^^^ yea true but hey I'd rather have the one that opens from the inside than the one that opens just normally from the outside..... my stepdad's S80 has that system that the gas door and the gas lid or gas cap unlocks ONLY when he presses the unlock button on his alarm remote.... it's a pretty sweet safety device or so I think

I would rather have it hidden, but the S80 way works well too, then having it like the corolla.
