you will need to drill a hole in the firewall to run the power wire inside the car or you can run it under the car and drill a hole in the trunk where you will mount the amp but the firewall is a better place.try to find another place where wires go through my corolla did not have a large enough place to run my wire through but all my other cars had a rubber fitting i could push my wire through just make sure it is not by any moving parts or hot spots. or you could just find a open place in the firewall and use a centerpunch first and a small drill then a larger one. and for usuing the factory radio you can tap into the power wire behind the radio or in the fusebox where the radio fuse just make sure you go the right side of the fuse. you take the wire and wrap it around one leg of the fuse and stick it back in the holder. if you go the wrong side the amp will never turn off. trial and error 50/50 chance to get it right the first time. and for the signal you can tap off the rear speakers if they are in a rear deck. if not you can tap in from behind the radio and run speaker wires along to the back if you amp takes speakers wires as an imput or get a convertor and run rca's all the way back.
    i hope this makes sense.

I could run 8 gauge power wire without drilling a whole in the firewall. I put it through the same place as Oxymoron did.

on a stock radio there is not remote turn on lead. if it has a power antena that always goes up when the radio is on you can tap into that but new cars lower the antena when the cd or cass is playing so that may not be an option or it may not even have a power antena the best bet the is the power wire. usually red. its not the one hooked to the battery which is usually yellow. and slighty larger that will keep the amp on all the time.
if you can find a hole use it much easier to deal with but i had to drill my own. but i also have alot of things coming throught that hole. my undercar led wires and also my boost line for the s/c so i had to drill and never looked for a place to stick the wire through. but using an existing hole is muchbetter anyway good luck

There is a place I could hook up the remote wire on the stock HU. When you unplug the stock HU, there is one whole I could stick in the remote wire. If I have a picture of plug on car side (not the HU side), then I can let you know which one to plug the remote wire to. But I don't have a picture. Oxymoron posted one a long time ago.

    Yup, that's the one.
PIN 9 is the one. But there is no PIN on the car side of the socket. It only an empty whole. All I did was stick in the remote wire in the empty space on the car side of it and plug in to the deck. :D

Sorry, I don't have AIM. I don't even know how to get one... When are you installing? If it's next weekend, then I can take some pics next week Saturday.

I used the speaker level input from the rear speakers. I didn't take the ones from HU because it's less wiring that way.

There's no line out of the head unit. I had to crack the head unit open to tap the line level signals. For a sub, I would just tap the signal off the rear speakers.

The stock head unit does output a remote turn on signal - there's just no wire for it in the stock wiring harness.

If you want a clean way to tap the remote turn on signal, buy a connector for the vehicle harness and one for the stock head unit and wire them together. You can use the blue remote wire from the connector connected to the head unit as the remote on. The Metra part numbers are ABMW-1761 and ABMW1-1761.

Make your life easier (and safer). Buy the harnesses. No pictures are necessary if you do that.

Buy an amp that has some sort of common sense turn on. It doesn't need the remote turn on lead at all... it just needs to detect a signal from the inputs.

    makes life a lot easier

    Re: ...

Most low end amplifiers have that feature now. Try Kenwood, MTX or Rockford.

I've heard really great stuff about the JBL BP series amps. There are certainly things I don't like about mine, and I'll get into that in a different thread. But all the BP series from JBL, which are currently on sale everywhere (i got my 600.1 for 220 shipped...with the warranty), have the common sense turn on.

Basically whenever the amp detects like a signal is coming from your speaker level or RCA inputs... it turns itself on.

what i did was find out where the fuse box is... then pull out the ignition fuse... take the plastic off the remote wire... put it in the hole... then push the fuse back in... so when ur car is on... the amp is on... and can some show me where to run the 4 awg so i dont have to drill a hole?
