    I want a 200HP+ Corolla...

I know Ive been through this before:rolleyes: , but my engine is on its last legs and now my pocketbook and fiance'(LOL) is all for me getting a new engine. Right now, Im looking at, of course, the 4AGE 20V. It seems as if people are dynoing these and only getting about 150-160hp max out of them stock. Im curious as to what mods and how much $$$ I would be looking at to push it over the 200HP mark. I would like to keep it N/A, but if I have to go FI I would want to see it pushing about 250HP. I dont know if that is even a logical dream though, Im not very knowledgable when it comes to engines. Please help me out!:) I have the cash literally waiting to be spent, I just have to find a good reliable engine and place to buy it from. Im also wanting to know, if I buy the entire front clip with a 5 speed, what else would I need to make the swap from auto to 5sp? Also, does anyone recommend any particular shops in Florida? Thanks guys!

4AGZE with an aftermarket Cusco Pulley will get you damn near 200hp, plus a ton of torque to go with it :)

Hm...there is a guy local to me trying to get rid of a 4AGZE for $450, but it has warped headgasket. He throwing in a replacement for free and a new 255lph fuel pump for free. It doesnt have a ECU though, but it does have the wiring harness. Should I go for it?

without the ECU you'd need to buy a $500 emanage to make it work with your factory ecu. not to mention have somebody wire it up. But I agree 4agze is probably the easiest way to go.

It would really depend on the condition of the engine... i'd personally go with a Levin half-cut, low mileage JDM engine, and you'll have the 5 speed manual (some has an LSD also), and it should have everything you need included to install it straighforwadly and everything for the manual swap (save wear items, like maybe get a new clutch, resurface the flywheel, etc.)

I really have no idea where you'd get that engine at a fair price... I know where i'd get it here, but... its a little far for you probably :) Ask around people in the local tuner scene where you live for suggestions on where to buy an engine, more than likely there is a local place that can get it for you, and its nice to have an actualy brick and mortar location to go to if something is wrong with the engine, etc...

wow. guy here is talking about modying his corolla on a mainly-corolla fourm and almost everyone is pushing him into buying another car.. If other rolla guys are doing this I can only imagine what non-corolla owners would be saying. hmm.. I wonder why this community is slowly dying.

IMO the corolla is a good base car for tuning, as good as any other low budgit sport compact. The only reason people are having so much trouble with their cars is because they cheap out on parts, and do not care to gain some knowledge on how their car works.

^^^ ya baby sti all the way. And Jspe i am just saying corolla's are good starting cars but if he has all that money wouldent you want to upgrade to a better car, one with a bigger engine, better interior, and one that gets more respect. Im not hating on the corolla it is a great starting car. But im just sayin a corolla would not be the car that i would pick to drive for the rest of my life.

Corolla is the same as the civic. People tune civics why not corollas? Its because corollas have terrible aftermarket support. There are those few corolla owners that go all out and make their cars unique from the hondas which is a good thing. Personally I like the corolla and I like to mod it because no one else does it and it makes your car unique and people will want to take a look and see what kind of car you got.

i agree. i live in nyc and i dont think i have seen a heavily modded or even a moderately modded corolla here. i see too many modded civics and i cant wait to get my car fixed up starting the first weekend of july. i will be posting up a before and after picture.

i just hope supershyguy's rear brake conversion and trd muffler + exhaust gets here in time hehe

Why do people tune low budgit cars like civics, integras, sentras, base lancers and other FWD sub $20,000 MSRP cars instead of buying something "worth" working on like a 30,000+ STI, Evolution, G35, etc? There is no one specific reason why people to do what they do. I've seen people in the honda community spend twice what their car is worth on modifications without a second thought. Do we think our cars are that crappy not to do the same? Tuners are tuners for a reason, its more fun to have a low price car to play with than a high price car to pay off. And I rather have something I built myself then something that simply rolled of the showroom floor.

When it all comes down to it, slo's dream of a 20V can come true for 3 grand easy, less if he shop around for parts and does the work himself.

That is exactly true. And also, after all the money they drop on the STI or G35, they will have no money left for gas or insurance lol.

Only reason I said buy a newer car is that IMHO, its not the greatest investment to put all that money into an older corolla. Ive been on these boards for about 11 years now, and 95% of the people that invest a high amount in their corollas are wishing they hadnt a few years later when they realize that they wont get any return on all that money they dumped into their car. And the majority of them also dont do it the right way......

This is proven by the "who doesnt own a corolla anymore" thread.....the list is close to 30 now I believe.

True, but you are planning on dropping a few grand into your corolla, correct? A few grand could be a years worth of payments on a newer car with a better base platform.

The argument about parts being more expensive on the 4AGZE isn't really accurate, since the 4AGZE was available in North America in the MR2, so parts places do have access to the patrs, they might be a little more expensive for some parts (since it is a rarer and a higher performance engine) but it won't be too bad.

And theres something to be said about having a *slow* looking car with a 200hp supercharged engine :)

And its true that the list of people who don't own a Corolla anymore is growing... but the main reason i'm still here is because I have no doubt in my mind that my next car will be another Corolla.

definitely stick to the corolla man, you can get a better car in the future when you have kids and get married or something, i'm always happy to see modded corollas on the road, you just dont see them often, so stick with corolla, its a good sleeper, i've always wanted a 20v, you can get 200hp from a 20v, but you probably gonna have to go inside the engine, sorry to say basic bolt ons wont be enough for any 4age to go 200hp N/A, the 20v is more like 140 hp, and thats not to the wheels, if you want 250+ hp, you definitely wanna go forced induction route, as ANY 250+ hp N/A 4age will not be reliable for daily driven in the long run, N/A cars are defintely easier to maintain. If you forsure want an N/A, then the 20vs' will be the way to go
