Have you ever been late before? If not, call Capital One and see if they'll be willing to waive it. Don't threaten to cancel - at least not immediately.

During our move to NH, I went well over my credit limit & they waived the fee when I asked.

Yeah, Capital One would really care if you threatened to cancel. Do you realize how many cardholders and how much money that company makes?

If this was your first time late, just call them and theyll waive it. If it wasnt over 30 days late, it doesnt even hit your credit.

And how would cancelling your card effect them? Youd still have a balance, with them earning finance charges from them.

here at the credit union, we do not charge late fees. only fees we charge are returned checks and over the limit fees.

when a member calls up and says they forgot to make a payment on time, we will usually waive any finance charges ONLY if the payment is made in full. Otherwise, we tell the member that we can't waive it. You'd be surprise how many people throw fits about havinga 5.00 finance charge on their credit card statement.

But like everyone said, if its ur first time, just call and ask if they can waive it. but don't be late again cause they won't wait it more then once! And E is right, they won't care if you close out the account. When I get people who threaten to close their cc accounts here at work, I don't care...I see it as "one less person to deal with". lol.

I work for a bank too (largest bank in Canada, yay for me, lol)...

On our Credit Cards, when somebody has a late fee and they've been delinquent one time or less in the past 12 months, if they come up with a good reason or story we'll usually waive the late fee... but only if they have a good payment history with us...

I actully had a overlimit fee waved when I called to cancel about a yr back.. dam n text books are $$$. I did pay the full balance last night when I realized it, dosen't hurt to call.

Well not really threaten, threaten.. I just called and said "I would like to cancel my card plz," the CSR asked for a explanation, I said something about the overlimit fee, and she said she'll wave it if I stay a customer.
Dosen't really matter to me anyways, I pay the amt in full every month and I kinda want to get one of those spiffy paypass things instead.

Yea..When you write messages thru Navy Federal Online, I'm (and the rest of my section) the one who writes you back (as long as it deals with cc's, loans and mortgages). I work at headquarters in Vienna. :)
