I'm sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and your family. He seemed to have lived a long life though, 83 is a good age. :) Just remember the stories, laughs, and jokes around the dinner table at all of the family gatherings.

This song helped me through my loss of my Grandfather in 2003:
    NEW FOUND GLORY LYRICS

    "Sonny"

    I'm sorry
I heard about the bad news today
A crowd of people around you
    Telling you it's okay
And everything happens for a reason

When you lose a part of your self
    To somebody you know
It takes a lot to let go
    Every breath that you remember
Pictures fade away but memory is forever

An empty chair at all the tables
And I'll be seeing you when all my days boil down
But it's better where you're going anyway

    I'm sorry
I heard about the bad news today
It's really hard to get through
    Tough times and long days
But it really just depends on the season

    For now we'll say goodbye
We know it's not the last time
I've lost the best part of my day
But it's better where you're going anyway

    This is the last thing
    I will remember
It's better where you're going anyway

Sorry to hear that. I lost my granddad to complications from colon cancer last year. I say listen to the song corollawife posted, but also check out Alter Bridge's "In Loving Memory".

Ive come to the realization that as Im getting older, my relatives are getting older, and Ill be dealing with this a lot more in the years to come......Ive been blessed by having a younger family. My son was 3 years old when his great great grandmother was still alive. 5 Generations all together at one point. She was 90 when she passed a few years ago.
The women in my family outlast the men.

My grandfather was finally laid to rest today..... I was one of the pallbearers. His funeral wasn't big or fancy by any means, but a more formal and intimate occasion attended only by close family members. There were a lot of people who cried who I'm normally used to seeing little to no emotion from.... Even though I know he's in a better place and I promised him that I wouldn't break down again, in reality it's much easier said than done.... it's probably one of the most difficult things I've had to do deal with in my young twenty-something life to date. My birthday took place 2 days after he passed away... I'm glad that I got the chance to make him smile on his last day here, and thankful for all the happy memories that I will carry with me forever...

RIP Grandpa, you'll be missed dearly. :sadwalk:

Thanks for lending me your ears and opening your hearts.... this place is like an extended family for me....
