I bought this muffler...check it out...

    I got a Magnaflow SS 5" x 8" muffler. It's part no. 14235 on this page.

    http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/ss.htm

It's offset/offset with 2.25" diameter. Think this will do the trick?

I'm having the exhaust shop custom-make a 2.25" resonator-back exhaust when they put the muffler on. I'm leaving the resonator at the advice of the shop guys - they said it'll sound a lot better with the resonator left in. Should I have them weld in a different resonator or do you think the stock one is ok??

    Thanks,
    Trav

how much cheaper than the full catback was this muff plus all the custom work?

going to be mandral bent or crush bent?

IIRC the outlet of the stock resonator is where it becomes restricted, hence it getting cut off with the full catback.

My bro has the same muffler. If you remove your cat and res, it will be really loud.

Definitely not gonna remove the cat - I pride myself in having a ULEV certified vehicle....I'm gonna keep it that way. The resonator will probably stay as well, because I don't want anything obnoxious.

The cat-back system from Magnaflow can NOT be had for under ~$375. That includes muffler, piping and a resonator. It includes EVERYTHING from the 2nd cat back. Other cat-backs are similarly priced (Borla, TRD, etc.) and is ONLY the rear section (axle-back).

The SAME muffler included in the Magnaflow cat-back - I purchased it for $76 (shipping was free). The piping and install from the shop shouldn't cost more than $75 and probably not that much. Mandrel or crush - dunno yet b/c I didn't ask.

Pipe b/w 1st cat and 2nd cat is huge (3"), pipe b/w 2nd cat and resonator is big enough (2.5"). You're right - from the resonator to the muffler bottlenecks to a tad smaller than 2" (like 1 15/16") and that seems to be the restrictive part of our exhaust sys.

My deal is this: I don't know what's inside the resonator (is it a straight-thru design) and I don't know if the res itself is restrictive or not. Anyone venture a guess?? Should I get a DIFFERENT res welded in or leave the stock one??
