huyundai are complete crap... the gearboxes are shot to hell to begin with... we had a 93 excel for a while.. till it lost 4th gear, then 3rd and that was just the start of the problems.. it halso had a blown head gasket, shot rings and cracked intake manifold... this was back in 99 and was just a daily driverfor my folks...

Another interesting point to mention... my fiance's mum is a cop... 90% (i'm not joking... theres a report on it), 90% of all fatal car crashes that happen in this region of WA (and im sure its not the only region, or country, with these stats) going at 80km/h or less is a huyundai... how can they call that quality, when their cars are a proven death trap?

It is funny how the mud slinging on Honda and Toyota is widespread. Even Mitsubishi, which is at the verge of bankruptcy for betraying their customers for years by cleverly hiding the inherent car flaws, is trashing Camrys and Accords on TV against their Galant. In order to gain customer trust, they harp about the 3 year free maintenance schedule and how Toyota and Honda do not offer it. Well, Toyota and Honda owner need very little maintenance in the first 3 years to say the least :)

I think the biggest testiment to Hyundai's poor quality is how many pre 1993 Hyundai's you see on the road, practically none. They can't hold up. If they truly were better than Toyota now, I would expect to see more of them at car rental places and in fleets.

my fiance owns a 04 Santa Fe and so far its been the best. the way i see it..no matter what kind of car you own, as long as you take good care of it, then it will last.

they're not better, but they're GETTING better than they were. i have to admit, my aunt and uncle's two hyundais are pretty strong for being 15 years old each, and still tooling around like they're new.

Hyundai Motor Company was founded in 1967, Toyota Motor Company in 1937 (although in 1933 they added an automobile division to their Automatic Loom Works.)

Granted, Toyota Motor has been around for 30 more years than Hyundai Motor, but comparitives as "forever" and "just started" aren't accurate.

    hyundais better than toyota?

I was listening to the radio in central Illinois. This commercial for Obrien Hyundai said that hyundai has always beaten toyota by price but now they have beaten them on quality and also on gas mileage. Is this for real or what?

well, if it's on the radio, it must be true

I'm sure they're referring to their 10yr/100k warranty - which has nothing to do with quality.

BS Toyota has been in business forever and Hyundai just started. First of all their paint quality sucks. I've seen alot of huyndai here in c'ville with their paints chipping off. You'll never see that in a toyota. Second, Toyota makes better engines. And third Its a freaking hyundai, they can claim whatever they want but the bottom line is that it's still a huyndai!!!!!!!

That is total crap. They are harping about only one thing: J D powers and associates ranked Sonata above Camry and Accord. They could not beat the Corolla, 4 Runner, Sienna or any other car in the other segments. They have the best warranty for a reason. They know their cars are going to be in the shop more often. Toyota knows that their cars are going to b very reliable even after 5 years.

i kinda see it as if they give you a 10yr/100k then expect something to go wrong down the road. Its like soliciting a prostitute and not expecting to get a std.

It's like saying "Kia, Daewoo, etc. have always beat Toyota/Honda in price." Well of course these brands are going to be cheaper. Who in his right mind would pay more for a Kia/Daewoo/Hyundai?

Well they are probaly basing that on their 10 year warrenty. Since there aren't that many of the on the road i guess they are the only company that could really offer that. my friend has an 03 tiburon gt v6 6 speed. the build quality on the car imo is excellent. i like the car. for a v6 i think its under powered but its is still a good deal for the price.

dependable or not, I hear the tiberons (as cool as they look on the outside), I hear they have cheaply made interior parts, seats are uncomfortable, and they're very cramped inside. Friend of mine had a hyundai accent and it was pretty cramped inside. Not to mention hyundai's don't hold their resale value. I wouldn't buy one just based on the cramp factor being 6'4".

i was actually thinking about getting either an elantra or a tiburon at one point last year. That was when i heard a lot of bad opinions about the car where people had to bring it into the shop a lot. The transmission has been slipping a lot and stuff like that.

One thing mom was telling me is that they are just saying that on the radio to get people that dont know jack about cars to believe that they are the best. Then that will get these people to buy these cars. That is just one theory anyway.

hyandia is getting much better (WAY better than a Daewoo or Kia), but I'd still pay the extra money for a honda/toyota. The Hyandia's arent really that much cheaper.

oh yeah they're also better than Suzuki cars.
