how to test for clogged catalytic converter

What is a good reliable test to test for a clogged catalytic converter. I dont know if I have one but think maybe cause performance is down. I have done some high revving up to 6k rpm a few times would that clog the cat by melting the internals? I dont really notice any rotten egg smell though.

Old school method generally will use a vacuum gauge connected to your manifold to determine if there is some exhaust blockage (ie. Vacuum drops to zero when engine is rev'd up - normal at idle).

The rotten egg odor varys with the level of sulfer in the gasoline itself. An emissions check (electronic or tailpipe) is the preferred way to test for a poisoned cat.

If the car is OBD-II compliant (made after 1996 model year) - then an I/M scan and reading the voltage outputs from the upstream and downstream O2 sensors can be helpful.

Normally not an issue, unless you know that car was running overly rich or ran the wrong fuel or excess additive usage. Running it up that hight won't do anything unless the car was seriously out of tune.

so it sounds like more than likely the cat is ok and its probably some other performance problem.... ive never had it run rich before (no black smoke out the exhaust)
